96' Ram 2500 4x4 with V10
I bought the truck a while back and have been fixing the p.o. lack of maintnance.
I have installed new plugs, wires, water pump, oil ,and coolant.
I drove it to a buddys to install new ball joints.first long road trip.
Tranny would shift 1-2,2-3,and then before the 3-4 shift it would kickdown ,and then you would let off and it would then shift to 4th.
So after changing the ball joints on the front axle saturday.I took it home and decided to the check the fluid filter and TV cable adjustment.
I pulled the pan and it was fairly clean filter looked to be recently changed.
I adjusted the bands according to the factory manual specifications.Installed new filter, topped off fluid and readjusted the TV cable.
Went to drive the truck sunday ,and now the o.d. light is on the dashboard. The "trans Temp" light is on.The tranny is in 2nd gear.will not down shift to 1st even with the lever manually pulled down.It starts out in second and will shift to 3rd.No o.d.,1st or lock up.
I did get the codes from the check engine light.
45
45
38
I did find the 45 code mis fire.I put an induction timing light on each wire, and have a bad coil. The top half of the coil does not fire the #1 plug.I have located a new coil pack to replace mine.
I am just perplexed that after changing the filter, adjusting the bands, and the TV cable.that the tranny is stuck in 2nd and doesn't work right now.I am really starting to hate this truck

UPDATE: I replaced the coil pack today ,and man does this thing run good!
Had the truck up on the lift ,and found that the main wiring harness connector going to the tranny was up about a 1/2"pushed it down and now the lights are out.The tranny works fine now.I must have dislodged the connector when i was adjusting the bands. It didn't look unhooked ,but it was apart enough for it not to make a connection.my bad
