Shorty headers for Dakotas can sometimes work. Not sure on an E body though.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

I really wish people would quit assuming that not wanting to spend money is a choice. If you've got $2-300 kicking around to lend me then i can afford the headers i want. No money here, no credit. I dont want a $125 header, but $600+ is out unless you want to help.

Dougs. Check out Autozones website. With the 20% discount available at the time, I got mine for about $380 shipped to my door. These were the raw versions. Coated were another $120 more I think.
Hmmm... Maybe you can link the page. That website was next to useless for me.
Dougs for under $400 sounds good though. They make nice stuff. I didn't know Doug's went over the steering though. I dont need coated headers.

Hmmm... maybe a cheapo swap meet option for experimentation...
Got excited... Spintech makes a REALLY nice set ov Dakota mid-lengths... but again, $700. Dammit.

Nice, but now i'm back at $600+. Maybe the uncoated version is a lot less...???
Does this stuff come up used a lot? Dougs or TTI? I know if i build a big block Challenger i never have trouble finding used headers.

I meant cheapo Summit replace your manifold with "headers" type headers.

$200, price has gone up since I last looked at them.
Yeah... might be an option to get the thing up and running. I wonder if they fit?

somehow you can't seem to search properly. I put exactly what I wrote in the search box and it got the following as the ONLY selection! I sure don't see 600+
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/E...PartNumber=true
searching d453 got both coated AND uncoated.

Well my computer wont load certain sites and i dont have 20 minutes to search for one page. I had to google Dougs home site for that price. $440 is a lot better. Still over $500 by the time i own it across the border though. Probably gonna have to scour the Earth for something used. At least there are two brands i can use.

I had a set ov Hooker Super Comps on the 340 in my 71 Challenger for a while. They do fit pretty good, but you need a hell ov a motor to use them. The tubes are too big for a stock type motor. They are 3/4 inch from exhaust port to collector. Kills the bottom end if you have a pretty much stock motor. Check the small block for sale section, or maybe A-body parts. I think there's a set ov brand new Dougs 453's on there with one dinged tube. If they fit an A-body, they will fit an E-body.
Hah! JD... i had to laugh...
Hmmm... this is good to know. But now i wonder how much engine i'd need to really utilize them. I am putting a decent-sized cam, RPM intake 5.9L Magnum in there, with plans to mod further along the way. 1 3/4" does seem big, but then again, this engine should be relatively close to a stockish 383 and that would love a 1 3/4" header... Should be around 320HP to start with, though all done by 6000rpm.
Another thing is this will be a light car and a stick. 3000-3200lbs... so torque needn't be ridiculous.
Saw those headers already, though before i knew i needed them. Too bad they'll be gone before any money comes around for them. Grrr...

LOL. Years ago I made the mistake of typing that it would be nice to have headers that didnt hang low but for around $300. I was accused of being cheap AND poor because I dared to say TTIs were expensive. How bowt them Schumacher smallblock headers? Very very nice but more than TTIs. Ill have to get a set of those when I sell of my collection of hemi wing cars.

Hah! No kidding.
Well, at least now it sounds like with some searching one could get into a set that fits the bill for a reasonable amount. There are TWO used sets for sale here as i type, and someone has also said they may have some Super Comps. Its a start. One thing that kept me from ever even thinking about a smallblock was the $700-1000 headers. I dont care if Burns Stainless makes them with tuned merge-collectors... the money just isn't there. And years ov looking at other peoples E-bodies with the mashed primaries and ticky-ticky sound didn't help either.
I've also decided that i dont want to hear ANY part ov my exhaust until it comes out the tips. So nice thick, newer-design headers are the way to go. Hated that ticky-ticky sound ov my Hooker Comps. If it gets me on the road i'll go Hooker again, but it will definitely be temporary. Hell... i might just stay manifolded if i cant find some used TTI's or Dougs.

I still wonder why Hedman, Blackjack, Cyclone, Eagle, Walker, Flow Tech ect.. dont route their tubes the way TTI and Dougs do. Yes the above headers are made of crap metal but it would be nice to have that low cost option THAT PROVIDES GROUND CLEARANCE.

At this stage in the game probably just too much investment for too little return. Add to that they probably have tons and tons ov old stock they'd prefer to move. Hate to say it, but money'd be much better spent on designing Mustang or "charger" headers, maybe truck headers than 40 year old niche headers. At least we have the TTI/Dougs stuff.

If you can get the Dougs, do it. You won't be dissappointed. Plug access is amazing. I can R&R my plugs without so much as making contact with my headers. Thick flanges, thick tubes, over the steering so no disconnecting the linkage for install. It was a smooth install for me and I have power steering and a column shift auto. Finish is nice (I opted for the polished ceramic coating), welds are good.....

Hah! You dont have to sell me on Dougs. Years ago someone gave me a set ov big block Mopar truck headers at a swap meet. They were Dougs. I couldn't believe how nice, and solid they were. All my Chevy friends were just as impressed. Kind ov annoyed me i couldn't use 'em on anything. I'd buy 'em over TTI any day.
