I was given a set of 2322 trw pistons that have been milled to flat tops. I see in a speed pro catalog I have that these are shown both as doomed 12.5 to1 and also as flat tops. My ? Is what thickness would be safe after cutting them. I'm getting .200 on these pistons and when I compare other pistons in my possession the thinest I found were .300. What is a safe # for n.a. use (no nitrous)? Even some old stockers I have are .300 or more. Thanks

IMOP you don't hsve enough thicknness for that cylinder pressure.

That's why I'm asking, really don't want to experience that kind of failure!

I have run as little as .090 in a spot for the valve relief at 12.7 in an NA smallblock.

any old timers remember what the thickness was on the cut 2322 trw pistons from the catalog?

I don’t think there is a blanket answer for that. The old forgings are not of the same material used today in the upper end custom pistons, so watch what you are comparing to. I would be comfortable to say that the original design had quite a safety margin built in and you could go lower than that. Did you measure the deck thickness adjacent to the now removed dome area for its original thickness?

If it detonates like the pic above…thickness wont matter - lol

It's generally accepted that 0.200" is the minimum for piston top thickness.

Some older Speed Pro (TRW) catalogs listed compression for solid dome pistons with the domes removed, which is what yours sounds like.
