Bought a pair of 70 big block valve covers that are supposedly over the counter NOS.
The seller said he removed the cosmoline coating and painted them prior to selling.

They look like an original set I have, with the exception of two features, one on the inside of both covers and the other difference on the passenger cover.

The corners of the inside baffle has a hole?
The plug wire bracket, has a circular spot weld unlike the used original weld.

Does anyone have the new AMD repro's?
Is the hole on the inside baffle correct?

Thanks for your help!

Look a the difference in definition of underside mounting surface for the valve cover bolt on pictures you posted.
Obviously not the same on both valve covers in each picture.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to pass off a set of AMD covers as NOS ... and then someone to actually fall for it ... ...

sorry , I have to laugh at this .

Who did you buy them from , out the scumbag so others don't get conned ...

Since the re-tooling/issue they had with the first run, the current AMD valve covers are actually very nice and 99% correct, and fit well, from the AMD covers I have, to the others I've seen,....I'd still be leary of Ebay or other sites selling them, as I'm sure some are passing off the initial run covers, as well as trying to pass off as NOS

I called BS at an Ebay seller and he was veeeerrryy offended to the point of blocking me from buying from him.

you only need to look at the lack of patina for 40+ year old parts......for now!

When a seller blocks you from buying, does that also block you from asking questions on question section of the ebay ad too?

I don't know guys, I have a set I purchased 17 years ago from a local Mopar dealer selling off old inventories. This morning I compared them to the one in question and my set is nearly, if not identical to the one in the photo, when un-wrapped they also had Cosmoline or some preservative on them although somewhat dry.

Remember, car manufactures frequently changed vendors/manufactures for their parts (best pricing) especially replacement parts and along with this came style changes.

To me the repro cover with the gasket looks significantly different at the attach points and cut of the baffle compared to the questionable one however I'm viewing a photo. I looked at an original used/abused set of covers off of a 1977 440 and they are like the one pictured that is in question, even had the hole and gasket bulge at the mounting hole. Is it possible the Mopar vendor tooled up and revised the configuration for better sealing and the cover is a later version Mopar cover for replacement?(I don't know just offering).

As a retired attorney with a little experience,(plenty of knowledge of civil law)I do know that mis-accusations can be dangerous. Folks need to be very careful about comments that could negatively impact the reputation of an individual or business. If you do challenge someone you better have some credible proof/information before accusing them of a fraud or civil infraction then identifying them on an open fourm such as this one, simply because it may be possible the cover is as stated by the seller.(Keep in mind I'm not saying any comments here rise to the level of a false accusation charge so please don't beat me up on this)

Either way I hope this issue gets worked out for the best of each party involved and wish everyone happy Mopar'ing'

Looks like your new to Moparts, and generally the Moparts "mantra" is "pics, or it didn't/dosen't happen/exist".....plus as an Attorney, you know your statement is hearsay without documentation

Hi Dayclona,
Yes, I am new the Mopar community boards and really enjoy reading the posts. Was into Mopars a bunch of years back and transitioned to Ford and a few Italian cars. Had several desirable rides but sold them and decided to finish a Chally I have had for sometime.

Thanks for the note and I hope to maybe see some of you folks at Mopar events throughout the year. I’m looking at attending the “Portland,OR” swap meet next week then to southern Calif. that weekend for more swap meeting.
It's always nice to see old friends at the meets no matter what make/model car they choose to throw the bucks at. Without question the friends are the real reason for my going to the meets.

BTY, I'm not looking to get involved with the "covers' issue and yes I do know the difference Re: Hearsay, which is second or more (3rd, 4th etc) hand information, I offered first hand knowledge/experience therefore NOT hearsay. The way laws change so frequently now day’s hell, maybe the hearsay rule has changed without my knowledge.
Dayclona, best of luck with your car or project and as before,
Happy "Moparing"

I would have thought they lost their value as NOS as soon as they were removed from their box, cleaned and painted.
