My '70 Super Bee tail light bezels need to be rechromed... they aren't very blistered.... does this metal rechrome ok? What is the going rate on a couple of parts like these? ALSO... one of the bezels has 3 studs broken off. Other than JB Weld, is there a better way of fabbing/repairing the studs? Essentially, the question is: Should I jack with it or just spend the $325 on a repop set from BE&A?

It is a real project to redo pot metal. So it is costly. If it was me i would get the repops. there is a place in Tenn that does real good work "advance plating" Pauls is also good maybe the best. One thing is even though it may not have much blistering ad-fter striped it may have lots that need filled. The real problem is when the filling and sanding is done it will lose some detail unless the place is realy good at it. I could go on but there is some good reading here. http://www.advancedplating.com/process/process.htm

Save yourself the grief,.....buy a set from Mike Ross, at BEA.......pot metal repair is $$$$$$$ just for surface work, nevermind stud repair, plus a lot of platers usually ask you one question when dealing with pot, "do you have spares?".......cause in the process of de-electroplating the old plating off to prep the peice, sometimes the peice "dissolves" in the tank!

My trim is badly pitted. I was lucky enough to come across NOS trim. Add the difficulty factor in finding any decent C body trim--let alone B stchuff. I watched these pieces for two weeks and nobody else bid on them and did not meet her reserve. She E mailed me her offer and I bought them up. Cost? 100.00. That is probably still cheaper than getting re-finished,IMO> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...W:IT&ih=004Other NOS potmetal trim I scored, the front fender "eyebrows"

Another possibility is to find perfect originals that just need replating, no repairs. Fixing pot metal parts is expensive, and you don't necessarily get back a part that could be termed "perfect", it would depend on who did the repairs. I've seen good parts ruined by "repairs".

after spending a lot of money on pot metal repair with mediocre results I strongly suggest BE&A or whoever has them

Your better off just buying the repop set from BEA...
I had two very nice 70 Coronet bezels rechromed at Paul's chrome plating in 2004 and they cost $225.00 A PIECE!!! that was almost 5 years ago They came out beautiful...but if the repops had been available I would have bought those...
having been there and done that..I would buy the repops...
Best of luck to you!

Steve.. There's a guy here in Houston that does potmetal/pewter and actually can fix the items... But, as with any potmetal, you run the risk of more bubbling if it has started... Usually the bubbling is a function of the casting and whether or not there were air pockets.......
I'll try and find their website.. They did my check moulding and original door handle for the hemi Charger. I'm taking my wing window frames to them as well............

Hey Troy!....just curious what you paid to have your check moulding and door handles done?.....I paid $300 to have my checks done(then the repros come out for $200!).....and my handles done for $250,.....my A pillars, just the pot metal pcs,I assembled the assys after plating, cost $600 pr,.....and all the pcs were in excellent condition, only needing to be freshened up chrome wise............
I would think in the 3-4 days this post has gone on, BEA parts could have shipped the OP a set of new benzels, and he could have posted by now how nice they are!.....and how much $$$$ and aggrevation he saved?

Mike, I believe my original door handles were about $120/140 for the pair and shot, I think about the same if not cheaper for the check mouldings. I believe I was quote about $100 for the individual a-pillar door frames...

I talked to mike ross about the parts. I have a big list of stuff I need, so I am going to wait a while to order them. For my purposes, I don't see the value in jacking with the old ones. Thanks for all the input.
Mike has everything you need?
Mike G. and Steve.. Here's the place I took my stuff..

Well,...Troy if you can get the A pillar pot metal frame done for a $100 each,.....don't wait!
I paid $200 for each front A pillar frame, and $100 for each side vent window base, hinge pivots, and locking handles.......total $600, and I did the disassembly and reassembly,.....not a bad price for all the individual pot metal pcs, but just kills ya to spend that much on an A pillar,.....but they are often skipped in a resto, because of price, and complexity of dis/re-assembly by some people,......and a bad set of pitted A frames can kill the look of even the nicest resto
