My Daytona cage (mild steel) was upgraded from a 8.50 cert to a 7.50 cert in 2009 and 6 chromoly bars were tig welded in. The guy doing the work prefers to work with moly.

Yes any time you join moly to mild you have to play
it just like moly... in other words it has to be tigged

Are we talkin' cage here or just mild to Moly in general?

I've mig welded the two a few times over the years in "non critical" applications with no problems.

Just did the 7.50 upgrade on the Charger the last couple weeks and tig welded the Moly to the old mild steel cage. Proud owner of an NHRA 7.50 sticker.

If its a chassis the first joint to mild( if adding
moly HAS to be tigged .. then each joint has to be
tigged if its moly.... IF by chance you are adding
mild to moly(chassis or cage set up)the first joint
where the moly and mild connect it has to be tigged
then all the rest of the mild can be migged... if
its not a cert thing, then yes you can mig it.. but
I dont like to.... I tend to tig even mild for a nicer
looking weld

Still has to be tigged(in my opinion for the strongest
joint).. the er70 is fine... also on tube adapters
you should drill a hole back about half way on it
through the tube and puddle weld it closed for a
proper way to do it... I do that all the time(if
you ever had it checked that is required)
EDIT
depending on the size of the insert I usually drill
a 3/16 or a 1/4 hole to fill

I have never seen anyone weld the rose-et welds on a four link or wheelie bars when useing threaded tube ends.

All my inserts are puddle welded... front steering
links as well as all the 4 link stuff.. and on every
chassis that leaves my shop.. I was taught by a chassis
guy and he said it is required.. I think I seen it
in the NHRA rule book back a few years ago
EDIT
I know I seen it in the book.. but it was if you
were splicing in a piece in tubing(with a inner tube
inside the outer it is required) so this is basically
no difference except its not in a certed area but
it is for strength

Mr P you are correct it is required and it is required to be at least 1/4 hole to plug weld.
