I have a mild 440 in my 69 Coronet R/T with the Lunati Voodoo 60603 hydraulic cam, nothing wild and still using original rocker shafts and stamped rocker arms. I'd like to upgrade to something a little more reliable (and not with 40 years of use) and wanted to ask for some suggestions. Car is just a cruiser, won't see a race track but I beat on it a little when I have it out.

I was looking at the Crane adjustable (64770) which are 1.5 ratio and $299 from Summit. I noticed the 1.6 ratio set (64771) are $249 for apparently the same kit... anyone know why they are cheaper?

Anyway... are these a good choice or is there something else I should be looking at? Any reason not to buy the 1.6 ratio and save $50 if I go with those Cranes? My pistons have plenty of valve relief so the 1.6 shouldn't have any piston-valve clearance issues.

How about rocker shafts and pushrods, which I will need to also upgrade if I'm doing everything else.

Thanks Moparts!
Darren

There was an article about rocker arms and shafts (roller) in one of the Mopar mags about a year or so ago. It was a comparison of most of the players who manufacture roller rockers. You might want to look that up. I would think that a stock setup would be as relaible as it gets for a mild motor. Thats what's on mine.

Thanks... I'm not looking to go to rollers, just something like the Crane adjustable I thought might be a nice upgrade.

Anyone else?

Is just a package like this from Mancini Rocker and Shaft Kit with some new pushrods a good enough choice?

I'd go with the heavy duty stamped steel replacement rockers. As soon as you go to after market rockers you are likely going to have to deal with rocker to valve tip geometry issues because they are all a little different. There is no standard dimension when it comes to after market rocker arms. If the stamped ones are working then replacing with heavy duty stamped units would be the easiest thing to do.

My ... Buy new OEM-type stamped rockers and correct-length pushrods (or some adjustable-length pushrods) and be done with it. They're simple, effective and light weight.

You don't need adjustable rockers (as long as you get the correct pushrod). Since the Voodoo cam is a fast-lift hydraulic profile, increasing the ratio from 1.5 to 1.6 is likely to result in the valve train experiencing harmonics issues at an earlier RPM than it does w/ the lower ratio.

As far as shafts... if your current shafts show signs of wear, replace them w/ the common standard-duty hard-chromed shafts like Mancini and 440 Source offer.

I have the Crane setup from Summit. I have several thousand miles on my motor over the past 8 years and they looked fine last time I had the covers off. I don't recall what pushrods I used. For some reason, I don't recall using the stock pushrods and having to purchase a set.
