Anyone have the original cam specs for a 1965 426 street wedge ?

I have found a couple posted online but they didn't match each other

I am looking for something close in specs, It will be for a 100% restored engine - 4 speed with 3:91 gear

Considered running the MP Hemi cam but the intake ports and original carb are so small it may be overkill ?

Thank you

Probally the same cam as in the 413 and maybe the 361 and 383 four barrel motors, maybe not.I do remember them idling real smooth, no rump or distinct idle at all

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Thank you !

I would like to go a touch hotter but wanted to get a idea what came originally as a starting point.

Smallest cam I have ever run in a BB street car I've owned is the 509 so all these sound mild to me.

Looks like Lunati has alot of choices available

on a 100% restored 426 wedge i'd be very careful about big cams with those exhaust manifolds. the intake manifold doesn't flow much air, a very small 4bbl, '516 heads that don' flow very good. my choices would be a mopar 272-.455, stock magnum, comp cams 21-304-5, or a summit 6401. any of these cams will need a valve spring change, but any cam change will need new springs.

FWIW, I ran the old Street Hemi grind in my 64 413 with stock intake and exhaust manifolds. I did upgrade to 906 heads though. With the original 3.23 gears it was somewhat soft off the line, when I put in 4.10's it really woke the combo up. This was a stick car too.

Don't be the exception.

Thanks - Yes the intake ports are pitifully small - I was looking at something around 275/.477/108 at the most

Thanks again

Two thoughts:

1. As wonderful as the Max Wedge motors were, the regular 426 found in street cars was just a midpoint between 413s and 440s. Nothing more. So the camshaft is probably nothing special either.

2. Contrary to opinion expressed above, if one has smaller ports, one crutches the smaller ports by using MORE camshaft duration. Case in point, the Buick nailhead exhaust port barely flows more than 100cfm, and the stock exhaust lobe on the 401s was something like 238* @ 50 lift.
