Just recently my 99 Ram started to slip between the 1 to 2
shift. Fluid is not burnt, and the rest of the trans is working well.
What is causing this could it need a band adjustment and a filter change. Or is it on its way out. truck has 120,000 miles. Not beaten at all.

Try adjusting the kickdown band first.

I had the same problem a few years ago with my 1999 Dakota R/T so I drained the pan and replaced the filter, adjusted the bands, put a can of trans-x and Red Line tranny fluid oil back in it.

^^^ this , 1- 2 shift is the band grabbing the front drum and stopping it , if it's slipping it's because the band is not holding well till pressure builds .

You might get lucky my 1999 Ram 1500 4X4 started slipping on the 1-2 shift, did a band adj and filter change, but the torque converter decided to head south shortly after at 166,000 mi, Oh well, 3rd Ram, 3rd tranny...
