Planning on buying a set of headers for a 318 engine.

Heard hooker or hedman are the way to go.

Thinking of at least 1 5/8in with 3 in collectors. Anybody got any suggestions on what type is the best.

thanks

Yeah, You get what you pay for Pay the money for a good set of headers. The Hedmans and other cheap brands sit low, and usually have a tube that runs underneath the steering link, and they drag and hit high spots in the road.

What do you look for to make sure they do not sit low. It is hard to get an idea of what will fit the best by just a pic

also how important is thicker flanges or is it just sales hype

I like the Doug's on mine, above the steering as well. also the Hooker super Comps are above too, IIRC. The dougs have a 1 5/8 tube. The other 2 are larger tube headers.

depends on what the 318 is in most likly

the ones that hang down under the steering is an A-body header

B-body,c-body,trucks are diffrent but some brands will interchange bodys with a 318

get the headers with the ball end collectors and loose the gaskets at the collecter flange

got new headmans for my truck fit good and has no gasket on the collector

thats the ones that have allways givin me trouble with any headers for a 318

I allways remove the studs on the ends on a teen and use sealer and a header bolt instead

it makes install a little easy-er on an A-body for sure

OH! FYI.. and if its a smoger, make sure you plug the air injection hole under the exhast ports...the header flange will not cover them
