Hey guys, forgive my ignorance here as I know nothing about this engine. I have been put in charge of selling a 1989 ford(sorry) CL9000 at work. I manage a lighting rental house in Los Angeles and this was an old studio truck. It has the cummins L10 engine and is in decent shape despite having sit for 3 years. It turns over freely but doesn't start. It also has a functional lift gate on the box. The problem is it won't pass a smog test and I just learned that California won't re-register the truck since it has been off the road for a while. My question is what to do with it. Is it scrap? Would it sell out of state? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

How can a non running engine fail a smog test? Sell it as is what you see is what you get.

It was parked due to failing smog test.

You need to get it out of state or across the border into Mexico.

Does it run on ether? Also is that a manual engine or is their an ECM on the side? The L10s were pretty good little motors. Check to see if your getting fuel pressure and all the normal stuff.

As a running engine depending on miles etc price could be 1000-2500 depending on a lot of stuff. If you sell it as a non runner maybe $500 since you won't require a core (a big selling point).

As others have mentioned our "old" stuff is desired down south, and overseas and often those guys pay well. Good luck.
