Swapping out headers and the new set I have are ceramic coated. I need to dimple one tube slightly and I'm wondering if this will cause the ceramic coating to crack and peel. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Yes it will, can't you move the motor instead of denting the headers?

Its an early hemi in a 32 Ford 3 window coupe and these are Hotheads block hugger headers. The Borgenson steering universal joint off the steering box is going to interfere with the collector just slightly and the shaft is going to interfere with the #7 header tube. Moving the engine isn't really an option. I may have to reconfigure the steering shaft and box position in order to make this work.

I've had good luck dimpling several sets of TTI with ceramic coatings by using a large round oak dowel, place it were you need the dimple and hit the oak with a hammer, the wood will soften the blow to the pipe and dimple it slowly with a few blows

It amazes me that headers have been made for 50 plus years and manufacturers still haven't learned we need more ROOM for the plug boots. It's just crazy we have to resphape after spending hundreds on headers or cuss them after an install.

A buddy of mine heated the tube that needed clearance cherry red and then used the side of a 1/2 drive socket extension to apply pressure. It made a perfect factory looking dimple and it never marked the ceramic. This was on fresh ceramic that had never been run if that makes a difference.
