Need to put new quarter glass into frame. This for an E body but I assume install is basically the same. I have the black tape, it is thick and have I tried to roll it and stretch per the instructions that came with the tape. Still tears when I push it with the window into the frame. Also tough to get the window to slide into the base and the vertical stainless trim piece. Any tricks before I tear up more tape? Thanks.

I don't bother with the tape to set any qtr/vent glass molding, if your skilled, using 3M windshield urethane can yield better results/better bond... IMHO

My boss has been doing this since 60's. I've watched him take a block of wood put it on the channel or glass and tap the glass into the channel with the glass setting tape. I hate doing that and bugs me to do it. On other hand I to have done the windshield urethane. I usually take 80 grit and scuff the area that will be glued then put glass frit primer on it. Put urethane in the channel. Set glass into it and assemble it with wi Dow rolled up. Let it dry and it's good to go. Just watch amount of urethane you use and wear rubber gloves. Its easy to get messy!

Are you using engine oil on the tape?
A rolling pin can also be used to thin it to an appropriate thickness. It should be snug, but doesn't have to be "beat on glass" tight.

Thanks for the response Rick. I got my tape from you and have followed the diresctions. Test piece worked fine but the full length piece is what is tearing between the glass and the frame. Heated it with a heat gun and rolled it but still have had issues with tearing. The base was not too bad but the vertical stainless piece which is curved, is giving me trouble and it seems more narrow than the base. I did oil it per your instructions. Thanks.

I've sometimes had to open the vertical channel up slightly. They can spring closed slightly after you pull the glass out.
