been having trouble with this for a while. cable sticks when i let off the gas slowly, during normal driving. sticks a couple hundred rpm above idle. if i lift the gas pedal from behind, the idle drops down to normal.

but when i adjust the cable in the bracket at the manifold, it sometimes sticks worse, and will stay at 1500, 2000 rpm, until i lift the gas pedal.

the linkage at the carburetors works freely, and the cable works freely when not attached, so i'm assuming that under the load of the carb springs it is binding slightly.

it is a replacement cable for a hemi, and i have a stock reproduction bracket, so it is in roughly the same place as stock.

is there a way to lube these cables? i can't figure out anything else at this point. if i move the cable far enough forward in the mounting bracket that it doesn't stick, then i can't get WOT.

any thoughts????

A lot of the time it is the cable fraying inside the housing and there is really no cure other than a new cable.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

Depending on the age of the carb it could be a worn throttle shaft.

I have had that problem on numerous carbs.

It's worth it to just replace it. You won't want it to stick at a wide open throttle, you'd be putting yourself, your car, your motor, and/or other people at risk. Think of it as a small insurance payment.

make sure it's not just sticking at the firewall mounted throttle pedal mounting / pivot / roller

the cable is new, about a year old. when i take it off of the throttle shaft, it slides freely, and the carbs work freely as well. the carbs are new as well, and i don't feel any sticking or binding at the throttle shaft

i want to try and get some lube in there, that may be the kick it needs.

looks like it is also time to play with things at the pedal/firewall end as bill suggested.

thanks, and any more thoughts are appreciated!

Slop in the throttle shaft will cause sticking. They usually don't stick with the cable disconnected.

If you readd think it is the cable there was a tool sold by JC Whitney for lubing cables. Maybe a motorcycle shop has something?
