I got a 340 from my buddy who quit the hobby. It had a bad piston. I bought a new set. I have everything to put together a nice mildly hopped up .030 over engine with J heads and everything fresh. The question is can I sell it assembled and painted, pretty much ready to go, or would potential buyers beware because they wouldn't know my work. So maybe it's better to advertise in pieces. What do you think? It has 2 sleeved cylinders which could scare someone off.

I vote not assembled, they can put it together themselves and have a machinist check for any problems. That way the buyer will not have to message you for every problem that might occur

All apart for sure, I would never consider it if it was together.

I've sold several engines, I had them all apart so the buyer could see what he was buying.

I can't speak for the rest but I would much rather see and check out what's included rather than hope someone did it right. No offense to anyone...I'll put it together and check it out. If it cough's then it's on me.

...FAFO...

Everything asembled is a core unless you can see it run and check the vitals so unless you have a run stand, I say unassembled.

Partial VIN #2B391090 casting #on side of block
2780930-340-5 number under drivers side head 80119
and 9-28-71 is cast into it also. I guess this makes it a 72 model block but the J heads have 2.02 valves and have been milled so compression is not a problem. This engine went 12.1 in my 73 Dart and has been freshened since then.

I'd prefer it unassembled so everything could be inspected.

Even if it runs it's still a CORE unless it comes with a WARRANTY .

Is there a separate thread about sleeving this block because there is nothing in the original post about a SLEEVE ???

The last line in his OP says 2 sleeved holes

OP states it in his first post, that don't scare me though.

i would sell as a unasemmbled kit. odds are that somebody allready has a block and could use the entire rotating assemble&heads and keep the sleeved block as a spare...
