I currently run this one:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-440-11/overview/make/dodge

It is the common Holley unit. I had some fuel delivery issues last year while breaking in the Lunati cam. Lately while running the car hard it has run out of fuel at WOT. The fuel pressure at idle is in the 7 range. At 3000 rpms in Park I can see the filter starting to empty out. The pressure slowly drops as well. I'm sure it is only worse when under a load while driving. The float level is dead center in the sight plug. I have a 3/8" fuel line from tank to carb.
I recall reading that there is a better flowing Carter pump available. Any comments on the Carter unit or others?

I run a Carter pump on my 470" street toy. I've had it spun up over 6K multiple times with no issues.I even feed it with 5/16" line. Take a look at your pump pushrod....maybe slightly worn, not stroking the pump as far as it should? Pressure no volume??

What Dcuda said there is something else going on. We run a 360 stock car with an OE "airtex" mech pump (class rules)/5/16" line with NO starvation at 6200 RPM at WOT at the end of the straights. I ain't checked the psi (yet) with a gauge inside the car (did not have an isolator until now) & no direct fuel line to the inside of the car allowed but the eng does not lay down & in fact at ~5800-6K when it gets up on the "Hughes" cam it turns on like crazy. For you at 3K it for sure should not be running out of fuel & that's in Park at that (no load). Measure the pushrod/check the sock (if used) or there's a restriction somewhere (or the pump is shot) or possibly getting real hot or using E10 .

Any pump that works at all should be able to supply fuel to the engine with no load.

A good first step would be to run a hose from a can of gas to the inlet of the pump to see if that part works.

Master, again and still

Excellant timing.
I have a customer interested in this very issue.
Plan is go with a new push rod , a quality mech pump, stock fuel tank, 3/8 sender and lines and call it good .
Considering how often his car will see high RPM's I told him it would be fine ( may have to put a lower RPM chip in the MSD box as a just in case )

The Edelbrock while expensive claims to be able to support 600HP--I have used with great success. You must pay attention to details and not choke it down with wrong fittings etc.

Clay Smith mechanical pumps are very good. I have seen them used on a 8 second dragster.

I used my original 1970 440 six pack pump on my 496 stroker 6 pack without any issues whatsoever.

The Holley I have has a 5/16" outlet. I had to use an adapter to a 3/8" for the line to the carb.
