Is that measurement taken with the weight on the suspension?
Would make a difference
I used to care but....... things have changed

So if the car was supported by jack stands when measured and then lowered onto the floor with the weight on the suspension will the measurement be too short or too long? Seems like you would need a little more length once the weight was on the suspension...

All of the tires of the car are sitting on 6X6 blocks so its easy to work underneath it for now and the full weight of the car is on the suspension just as if it were sitting on the ground.
Not to change the subject but anyone know what type of fluid and how much ill need for my 904? Has a stock pan and converter is empty.

& just put a pair of jackstands under the rear axle (instead of the framerails) to get a "loaded" reading or easier yet just slide a floor jack under the 3rd member(the center) & get the car high enough so you can get up in there & get a measurement.
I hope you're not serious.
or, that your floor jack has mechanical safety catches on it to prevent it from collapsing.
the best way to do it would be to have it sitting on the ground, as it will travel down the road.
since most of us are thicker than 4" and can't reach under there to measure, the next best thing would be to put jack stands under the rear axle just inside the tires, and up front on the control arms, just inside the tires, this will make the car level and simulate "as it goes down the road."
