any one got a lead on schematics from OEM MOPAR ecus?
stock,orange,gold box?
i want to see why a box for more rpm cant be goog on the street.
remember im from the semiconductor industry and dome 1000s of r&d for this very reason and every one has had to improve on the previous design yet satisf the present revision 100% in relibility otherwise it would lead to legal stuff

Its not the ecu that is the issue. Its the combination of ecu, coil and ballast resistor.

As rpm increases there is less time for the coil to saturate resulting in lower potential at higher rpms.

The performance ecus increase the dwell and the recommended coils have lower primary resistance along with a ballast with a lower base value. You now have a situation where you there will be increased time to saturate the coil and there will be more current flowing due to the lower resistance in the coil and ballast which gives you enough potential to support the higher rpms. This also means at lower rpms the ecu and coil have to dissipate more power as heat and the extended running time on the street at much lower rpms can over heat the parts causing failure.

Be simple enough to build a current limiting device to prevent the issues. Mopar did the ballast because it was cheap and more reliable than the solid state stuff available in the early 70's.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

if you get one, could you let me know. ive been looking for one as well.

i actually have a pwb out of an old ecu that had the potting melt out of it. I could probably trace it out but im really lazy

I had reverse engineered an old orange box several years ago, and put the schematic into orcad or pspice (don't remember which), but all that stuff is in storage from when I got divorced and sold the house. As I recall the circuitry was pretty simple. I think it had four basic sections: The internal voltage regulation for the ECU, the magnetic pickup input signal conditioning, a timming/dwell circuit, and the output circuit (basicall the large power transistor that connected the coils negative terminal to ground.)
I don't recall the part used in the timing circuit, but it used a UJT (UniJunction Transistor) and SCR as the main semiconductors?
If you Google UJT timing circuit you should be able to find some simular schematics.
