How do you properly set up the choke?
71 340 w/Thermoquad, just bought a new choke and want to set it up.
Presently the butterfly is tightly shut so car won't start unless I unhook the rod to let air in.
Thanks Ron

It's pretty basic, there is a nut that holds the coil spring assembly in the choke can, you simply loosen the nut enough to relieve some of the coil spring pressure pushing up the rod, then retighten it. You should have enough pressure on the rod so that it JUUUUST barely closes the butterfly when the engine is cold. You'll probably have to play with it a bit to get it just right. Also, a bit of choke lube (specifically made for chokes) is often helpful to keep everything operating smoothly, NAPA sells it.

Hey Scott
I knew it had to do with that but figured I'd ask. I guess I'll need a very thin 3/8 open end to get between manifold and choke housing.

Also I put a Mity Vac pump on the choke pull-off and it doesn't hold pressure but loses it and at slow pace so is that pull-off bad?

I doubt it's bad but if you have a problem with it I can send you a new one, no charge, just let me know.

Thanks Scott!!!! I'll let you know.
This all started because I wanted to eliminate the intake oil leaks. I resealed it and did some paintwork this week too!

For a start I'd set it to where it is lightly closed at 70 deg F then adj from there as needed & set the choke pulloff (vac kick) adjustment so vac pulls it open a slight bit when it starts (there's a spec for that)
