I am going to be in the process of recovering my rear bench seat soon and I need to purchase a semi-decent set of hog ring pliers to do this.

I have a set of Legendary covers on order and have the seats torn down. I was very careful tearing them down and took a bunch pictures to help me remember how they go together.

Can anybody here recommend a set of pliers? I see Eastwood has their brand but I see kinda cruddy reviews on them. Anybody here have a good set they can recommend I purchase?

This may seem kind of elementary to some but I see a ton of different types of these pliers and sizes of these rings.

On a related note, I have the "netting" that goes between the foam and the steel frame and it has these thin rusty wires woven through it. How would I go about cleaning that up without destroying the netting?

The hog ring pliers I used were from tractor supply. One thing I did was mark were the factory put the rings. Additionally Home Depot sells really small clamps for like 37 cents they are good at holding material in place before you put on your hog rings. Good luck!

Well, we used to raise hogs so I had a couple of sets of 'em setting around when I did upholstery replacement. Just ones we had bought at the local farm supply store. Don't know what they cost these days but I'd almost bet they're cheaper than the ones an automotive supply prices 'em at. We also had plenty of rings leftover so I used them as well, no different than the automotive rings.

I bought these from a place in town called Miami Products or something like that. Local upholstery supply.
The pliers are spring loaded and hold the rings nicely, straight head and a angle one.

But the best tool I got was the cutters, they cut rings in the tightest areas, wonderfully. Way better than side cutters.

I would think Eastwood would be the best place to buy a set if you don't have place local that sells that kind of stuff.

Do you really use hog rings on hogs?

Try ebay, the set shown above to the right is what you want, the angled head gives you much better access. Also, I agree, those blue handled cutters are super handy. The ebay set I bought were sold with an without a bag of hog rings of various counts, pretty handy to buy them that way.

I'm a city boy so I don't know firsthand, but my understanding is that hog rings are clamped into pig's noses to keep them from rooting around in the garden at farms.
The first set of seats I did I used the set on the right in my picture, and it was no fun. A couple years back I bought another set of seat covers from Legendary and decided I'd treat myself to a new set of hog ring pliers for installing this set. I found one on ebay for around $20 complete with some hog rings. Spring loaded, padded handles, worked great! Even made in the USA. Mine were made by Republic Fastener Products Corporation.

Yep, you really use rings on hogs, precisely to keep them from destroying the turf & keep them from rooting up the bottom of fences. Some hogs needed a whole snoutfull to stop 'em, some were never deterred no matter how many rings you put in 'em, & some were quite adept at pulling the rings out. You don't know what fun is until you have to snare & hold a screaming, wiggling hog while someone clamps the rings in, or vice-versa. And if it's young pigs with sows nearby you take your life in your hands, a sow is every bit as protective of any screaming pig as a mother bear (also called sow) is of it's cubs.

Thanks, I really didn't know for sure.

Wonder if they would work on my dog? Can you use them on dogs?

Will those hog rings work for my needs? 1/2" blunt tip?

I must admit, I like that they are stainless as the oem rings are mostly rusted mess now...

Also, any recommendations how to deal with the netting in my original attachment? It is intact but the metal wires are rusty. I kind of hate to put it back together like that....

Give the whole thing a light glass beading and then a coat of spray paint.

So just spray the entire netting? I had thought of that but I was hoping there was a way to keep it looking original (not that you will ever see it).

Thanks for the suggestion!

You need to remove the netting to blast it.

Believe he's talking about cleaning the netting with the rusty metal wires running through it.

I've never used Evapo Rust but maybe you could soak it in that then rinse off
