I was also curious about this, because the Imperial gallon is significantly larger than a US gallon. While the write-up from Dodge isn't clear which "gallon" they used for this test, wikipedia (for what it's worth) indicates that Imperial gallons are commonly used in Canada for the purposes of rating MPG's. Who knows... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon

They quote 7.1L per 100 km that works out to 33 US gallons per mile or 39.78 per metric gallon.
Hmm tricky tricky..... Good eyes guys!

I'm curious as to where they're getting the MPG numbers from. Every article I have read up to this point is claiming 28 HWY, 20 City, and 23 combined. According to Jeep's website, that same 3.0 engine only claims up to 30 mpg in a Grand Cherokee. I don't see how a full size truck will do better than a much smaller, lighter Grand Cherokee.
Ah, imperial gallons?? Hmm?

According to what I read the 1500 is only 600 heavier than the Grand Cherokee. I too am waiting for real world numbers!
Yup, the new Grand Cherokees are NEITHER small NOR light!
The Ram 1500 Diesel/8speed Torqueflite combo sounds very economical. Allpar.com has a chart showing how quickly (or not) it would pay off to buy the Diesel vs the Hemi vs the Pentastar. I should probably have one, since I put so many miles on my Hemi Ram and don't tow regularly at all...but I love the Hemi!

Ok any thoughts on some Math?
New lets say $45,000
I get a fleet discount of $13,000 Canadian for this diesel truck. It runs 7.5L per 100km.
What I have is paid for Ram 1500 4X4 hemi and runs 19.2L per 100km. On a good run 18.5L per 100km.
I run on average $700 to $800 in fuel at $1.25/L per month.
I really think I can pay for this truck with fuel savings alone. Anyone really good with this kind of math?
Cheers Don.
