My R/T is pretty much unmolested, if I give the ignition switch to a locksmith can he make a key, not a rekey but a key that would work in the switch and existing door locks?

Dave, there is a key code but I think you need a key to remove the ignition switch from the switch housing so that you can see the code. However, the same key code is stamped on the side of the door locks. He can use a door lock to make an ignition key but I think he has to know the 1969 Chrysler key codes? There is a lock smith who lurks on this forum that made some for Alaska A12's car that was shipped to Germany. He only charged $20. (Unfortunately, it didn't work but it would have helped if he had the lock to test it.) It would be better if you could get a replacement ignition key so that you can use your existing door locks because the repros do not fit very well. I bought a repro ignition and door lock set and they crimped my door because they were too tight when you tried to slide the spring clip in between the lock and the inside of the door. I ended up buying some used originals off of Moparts and they were a lot better.

Every time I buy a Mopar I've had to have keys made or locks re-pinned.
I don't know why guys always say it's expensive???
I never paid more than 15-20 bucks.

John, I can pull the ignition switch easier than a door lock but maybe I will pull them all. Is the key info on the broadcast sheet?

I bought the original key cutter from my Chrysler dealership years ago. There is a a number on the ignition that you can cut a key by.You have to have my book and cutter. Not sure about the doors. Not sure if you can see the number on a b body still in the switch housing or not. I don't think you can.

If you have the book and the cutter, can you cut keys? Maybe you can help Dave... but I don't think you can release the ignition lock from the switch housing without a key. You can't push the retainer pin in unless you turn the key. You have to get the code off a door lock. The key cutter person really needs a lock to test the key because just cutting it from the code is not foolproof.

Dave don't know the answer but if they are E-Bay keys stay away.
The locksmith told me most E-Bay keys don't cut well.
I always buy mine from RT Specialties and bring them in and never had a bad cut.
Also most good Locksmiths may still have blanks to sell and cut for you.

I have a limited number of original keys & have the ability to punch them as original with a EP ('69/E series primary) door/ignition code and ES ('69/E series secondary) trunk/glove box/console code.

Here are the blanks I have that cover most of the '60s, I'm missing a trunk key that was used on some ("CB" - series codes) '64-'67 cars.

Millions of key blanks have been manufactured & Chrysler used the same 1969 version for almost a couple of decades - like everything else over the years - quality has changed.

I believe the "A", "B", "other?" stamped on the OEM "Chrysler" branded keys is the manufacturer: "B" = Briggs & Stratton.

That is the same stuff I have at the shop.

Very interesting, rumor has it that B/S made way more money on car keys in the 60s than they ever did on small engines!
