There are racers with Racepaks and people who wished they did. Never regret buying the best.

Been trying to figure out what the sportsman one is with a dash...Their website stinks.

Sportsman $825
Dash, not sure which one, $?
What else do I need?....if I can't figure out what the heck I need, I can't even compare them. What options does the system have? Which dash works with the sportsman, do I even need the Sportman if the dash has a logger? Very confusing...

I'm no expert, but if you get the sportsman, you can use the display dash if you want, but you don't have to.Just download the data to a laptop. If you get the logger dash, you don't use the sportsman because the logger is in the dash

How do you down load it from the dash?

There is a card in the Racepack that you pull out and put in the laptop. It is the same kind of card I have in my trail camera's that I use in hunting season.

Two weeks ago I went to a snowmobile race. I raced a guy that told me his sled was basically stock. I just bought my sled and don't know what is done to it if anything but it is fast. I beat the guy the first run but we ran again and I spun and he got me by about two feet. When we got back I started looking over his sled. He had a Racepack on his snowmobile. Display screen on the dash and everything. I told him I had one on my Racecare minus the display and it cost $1500. He said his cost more than that. He opened his hood and he had sensors for each cylinder for EGT's and Air fuel. I didn't know you could get these computers for snowmobiles but most likely if he spent $2000 for a data Acquisition system his sled was far from stock.
They are a great tool but they are very expensive. If you are going to race more that a couple times a year they will pay for themselves by knowing what your combination is doing. My car was leaning out at the gear changes. Without this system I would have had no way of knowing. A plug reading wouldn't have showed this since at the end of the run the air fuel was fine.

How do you down load it from the dash?

Using the Serial Communications Port to Upload Data to your PC
To upload data from your data logger to your PC using the serial port, connect your PC to your data logger
system using the serial communications cable provided with your system and turn on the power to your
data logger. Next select the New file icon in the program taskbar or the New menu item selection located
in the File main menu. The following dialog box will be displayed and you will be asked to select which
configuration file to use. The list on the left-hand side of the Select Configuration box will display all of
the file folders in your RacePakData subdirectory that contain valid configuration files. Select the folder
on the left that is named VDash and the serial number of your dash. For instance, an Ultra Dash with the
serial number 1001 would be named VDash_1001. The list on the right will now contain the list of
configuration files contained in this folder. Select OK to begin the data transfer.

I prefer the SD card versions of the Racepaks. Much easier to pull the SD card and take it in the trailer to the laptop. Rather than taking the laptop and serial cord to the car. I have a dash as well but did not use it in the S/ST car. I prefer gauges to see what is happening real time. Dash can be hard to read but I imagine once you get used to it it is fine. We did have the dash in the heads up car.

Yeah its SD card or wifi...Not going down the serial cable rout anymore. Time to embrace the tech...

When i was shopping for a racepak ended up talking to this guy. He was real helpful on walking me through everything and getting me everything i needed, and customer support. Ended up giving him the business. he answered all my questions. I saw a previous post that mention Holts as a dealer as well. if you go with a dealer they will help walk you through the process and work with you.

I'm in the same boat .

I help my friend run a turbo VW and he uses AEM. I know Al knows his stuff so I'm torn between RacePak and AEM.
