I'm having a difficult time finding factory power sunroof parts for my 70 Charger R/T.

I've looked on EBay, Craigslist, Kijii, etc...
I have researched the original company that manufactured and installed them (ASC - still in business but no longer have information on parts)

I have looked for similar (70's era) cars that have power sunroofs (VW, Mopar, etc) and I get close but at the end of the day, it's either a manual sunroof car or it's already sold.

Several of the internal parts, tracks, aluminum guides, etc.. are either missing or corroded too bad to reuse and I'd prefer to take out the entire power sunroof assembly if possible.

The only other option that I can think of is to replace it with a modern sunroof assembly with similar dimensions.

I'm open to ideas or suggestions on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Have you talked to Dayclona? He is one of the professionals on factory sunroofs. I know sometime somewhere I heard that people were making new cables and pieces for them. I would contact him to see if he could help.

For the absolute best powder coating go to J.I.T powder coating, contact infomation is in my personal profile..

Greg,

First, nice project car! unfortunately it's the hardest to find parts for that year sunroof from ASC (39X19 model) the same basic roof set up was used by Ford 68-70, but they're even rarer on Ford/Mercury products, IMHO I'd keep looking for parts, you can use some of the cables and guides, assorted mechanisms from the 70-2E and 71-6 B body, and A bodie Mopar cars, of course they'll need to be modified....your in the same boat that a few others I know collecting 2nd gen Charger sunroof parts

Another alternative, is to mod a Golde mfg sunroof to simulate the 2nd gen Charger roof...you could use either a Volvo 240 series (80's models, late 90's and up 240 panels are larger) sunroof, they are usually handcrank but some models are electric, BMW E9 uses the same roof panels, or a mid 70's Volvo 142 model sunroof, these are electric also, these 2 style roof panels are "close" to the Chargers dimensions and shape, but would require some custom mods to make them appear like ASC roofs when open

I've got a 68 Hertz Cougar XR7G that may have the same ASC sunroof set up you have. The original manufacturer was Golde. Lots of vehicles used the Golde sunroof installed by ASC. There were Thunderbirds, Lincoln Continental Mark III, Mercedes, Volvo, Saab, BMW, Cadillac, Pontiac, and Buick.

Check with Don at West Coast Cougars. http://www.westcoastclassiccougarinc.com/index.php

He has a salvage yard which may or may not have some of the parts you need at this time. You should at least be able to get new cables from him.

Also Johns Classic Cougars sells a repo maintenance manual, which you may find helpful.

Hope this helps -Chris

If I can't fix it, I'll fix it so no one can !

Agreed, there's also Dave Hemmingway, he usually has some parts, I know he was going to have the cables repro'd, but IIRC that deal fell thru...I'll have to find his contact info
