I'm installing my cage in my 64 b-body and was thinking about doing the funny car cage, i haven't installed the seat bar or the x bars on the side yet.I would like to see some photos on cars that have passed tech to get an idea how its tied in on the right side and behind driver. Any pertinent info on dimensions would help also. I know i can buy plans from nhra but i want to see real world results. thanks in advance

Buying or downloading the SFI is the best thing you can do at this point. I think it cost 35 dollars.

Wow that's a lot of bars! Might just stick with regular cage, besides what ever i do it will be out dated in a couple years any way

8.50 cert isnt hard to do and is well worth it for
rigidity and safety... yes they have to be checked
every couple years but if you want to drive quicker
than 10.0 then you have to have it.... the $35 for
the drawings from SFI is money well spent

It's almost a must to buy the spec. from SFI. That said, you REALLY want to get advice from an NHRA chassis inspector also.

I just had one out to look at my car on Sunday. We spent 3 hours going over everything on my car to be certain it will be right the first time. I'm upgrading from 8.50 to 7.50 with the SFI 25.4 book that's for door cars with a full tube chassis, under 3600 lbs. He had the same SFI spec. book that I have PLUS a lot more from NHRA.

Of course, if you don't have a tube chassis in the car already that makes things a little simpler. Still, some things are open to interpretation so it's not worth the risk if you haven't built a few of these cars.

It's like he told me, NHRA makes some aspects a little vague intentionally so there's a little wiggle room for different car variations.

My Challenger is a current 7.50 (25.5) cert. I have better seat belt mounts with tabs on my home computer that I can post later.

You may do what you want with your car but if you street drive it I wouldn't. I had a friend killed last year in his car when he was hit broadside in his car. His head bounced of the funny car cage and killed him, left a wife and three little kids with out a dad. Hope it's a race car then the helmet protects you. How fast are you planing on going?

I thought of this too, banging around in there on the street with no helmet on. I'm racing it for awile then back on the street and no way will it be fast enough to need it. Sorry about your friend.

Yes I have a 8.50 cert cage in my car, though about putting a funny car cage in it looks bada__. Love the look of them, but I still enjoy mine on the street as well as racing it and decided against it. Thanks.
