I'd have to do some calculations, but just off the top of my head, I think I be worried about steel that would expand from the heat of a 100W light bulb?
Here we go:
Ok, thermal expansion of steel .0000076in/deg 100w bulb temp 470 deg so: change in temp is 400, 400 x .0000076 = .00304 thermal expansion, if pulley diameter is 1/2", then .00304 x 1/2" = 0.0015" or 1.5 thousands, maybe that is enough?
Enough pressure is required to seat the pulley on the inner race of the drive end bearing,if you just heat to install, how would you know it was there ?
Gee, I just heated the input shaft bearing on my A833 and it slid in place, used boiling water. Same deal here, let it boil for a couple minutes and it will expand enough that you will slip it on and it will stop when the pulley hits the race. It is not rocket science, just thermal.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

After all this I'm convinced. My next one I'm gonna freeze the alt overnight (tho you guys are saying that it ain't needed) then slightly heat the pulley & drop her on . I will not dissassemble the alt
