My 78 4x4 truck with 727 trans.

I know that some auto trans can be damaged towing with the rear wheels on the ground unless you add a pump to lube the tranny. Is this necessary with my truck or is this tranny OK without an modification?

If the trany's good I wouldn't take the chance & tow it backwards, & put the magnet base lights on the bumper. Just me.

The old push button trans had a pump in the rear & was told they could be towed, though I never have.

Edit: I just saw your other post on front wheel bearing so I see where you are coming from now.

Did you mean the REAR wheels?

And for the one that asked, I would be towing about 500 miles round trip.

If your towing 500 miles, just be safe and pull the rear driveshaft.

Then no chance of it bouncing into gear, or T case bouncing out of neutral.

Its a 4x4 so getting to the rear shaft shouldn't be too hard.

And its full time 4x4 so you can still drive it on and off the dolly, just put the T case in 4 High Loc and the front axle will drive you around.

NO, I said FRONT wheels. You want the weight on the dolly. Most dollys dont have a long enough toung to compensate for the bed overhang for turning clearance.

....and you're better off with heaviest end on the dolly for safer tow.
