Have a friend looking for a set of aluminum heads for his 500 inch RB engine. It has the 440 Source rotating assembly with their Comp Cams Xtreme energy .564 cam. Who has the best bang for the buck head that would be a reliable piece. Are there any issues with using the 440 Source head, or are there better options?

Thanks
Dan

There are the Edelbrock e-street. I think they are $1250 a pair, at least they were last year. Mine have 75cc chambers, not sure if there are other ccs available.

I have the first Stealths. They had a problem with some gaskets hanging in the chamber. That is fixed now.Mine have over 4 years of hard street/strip and no problems.I did change the springs retainers and locks which I would have done even if I had bought Eddys.I needed straight plugs as I run 12.5 domes.Rocky

I put Indy EZ heads on my stroker and I really like them.If it's going to be a street car I would go with the Edelbrock heads
Give Nick a call at www.compu-flow.com and let him set them up and check the valve job after you buy them from him.

I did the same as Gus and went with the Indy EZ heads as I think you can get them for about $1900. right now. But I bought mine from Dwayne Porter and he just cleaned up for me and made sure they were setup right. I went with EZ heads because I feel they have more potential down the road for more flow then the Eddy's and Stealth's if I decided to have them fully ported down the road and step up my combo some more. For now I just went with him opening them up to Max Wedge ports. But for a street car that is not looking to get even more performance down the road I would say the 440Source Stealths or Eddy heads will work fine. Both of them will even work very good ported but I just feel I can get a little more out of the EZ heads if I want to really go all out with them later. And Dwayne Porter gave me a great deal and did an awesome job. Ron

Worth mentioning that the last engine masters builds, (like THREE of them in competition)used ProComps???????Big power, big inches.Might be worth looking into, asking a few questions.

The valve guide material in the Procomps is not good stuff and fails quickly--valve quality is very poor as well.
You can order good valves pretty cheap but the stuff that comes in Procomp heads is bottom of the barrel IMO.
With the price of Eddys where it is now it is a small jump to Indy. All are TOO high $$ when you see Chevy heads that are great quality for $900 retail. The only diff is Mopar may use a few more lbs of aluminum.
I think before long there will be more Mopar choices--there has to be sooner or later. The overseas guys have been making heads for so many outfits now ,I bet it is only a matter of time
before we see something new and value priced along with top shelf quality.

Gus I forgot about telling him to have the valves etc checked.Jerry did all that to my heads.Plus he lapped the valves and opened the heads up a bit.Of course you know he has to have everything perfect.I never used Nick but talked to him a few times.Real nice guy and sells you just what you need.Rocky

For a street type head 440 Source or Eddie RPM, you can probably find some used floating around. Either way you should have them checked and have correct springs installed for your cam.

Either the 440 Stealth's or Edelbrocks. I'm using Stealths with no problems.

I have owned rpm's, e street and source heads.

e street is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. stealth's are garbage unless you need a wheel chock.

I don't think Nick will do Stealths.

Are you saying this because they have problems or because of how they flow??

Thanks everyone, please keep the comments coming.

I have no problems using the Stealth heads. Had them checked before install and they are good on my street motor. If something around 500 hp is the goal they should be fine. If the goal is big power, then they are probably not the best choice.

I have an older set of the Stealth heads on the 440/505" stroker, mild street engine. I have had no problems with the heads, but I did some mild porting and valve job to get them to flow around 290 cfm. I think out of the box the flow would be down compared to most other aluminum heads. I used different springs, retainers and locks too.
My main reason for using the Stealth heads is their more stock appearance when painted.

I think the Edelbrock heads flow more out of the box, so they may be closer to a ready to bolt on out of the box type of head? These heads do not look stock if it matters.

These stock port size heads are OK for mild performance to around 550 HP (600+ with porting and a roller cam), but with 500"+ strokers the larger max wedge port size is better if your looking for big power numbers. The down side is $1,000+ rocker arm assemblies, and headers for raised exhaust ports.

One thing to watch if you go with Eddy RPM's, if you put a heavier spring in them make sure your set has the Ferrea valves!! The no name valves in some of them can't handle higher spring pressures.... You won't like what happens!! P.S. Replace the locks too...

I installed MP 452"s which are Eddy RPM's, built by Edelbrock, with straight plugs. The straight plugs were needed on my 500" stroker because I have Exhaust manifolds, not headers. Checked out at the advertised 84cc's. My Harland Sharp rockers and shafts were a bolt on, as were the rocker covers, intake, and exhaust. I am a happy camper with the quality and performance.

I've got the Ed heads. Prepped and cleaned up by Muscle Motors. valvetrain fit with good geometry (Comp "pro magnum steel rockers") and I have had no problems.
