You might list the year in case that matters. I got a reporduction for a 67 and it was green cad (brighter than olive) or whatever, silver with a green tint. Not sure if it was correct though since the bolt itself wasn't. The finish could have easily been duplicated with green Eastwood anodizing tint over a bare metal color.

The 67 wasn't but other years are different so without know the year I'm not sure anyone can answer that question. I would say look on line and match it up with your original.

my originals have been replaced with what looks like
2 perfectly bent pieces of threaded rod.
i've seen this 4 or 5 other times and wondered if this
was a common replacement part.

The 70-71 Duster versions (and likely others) were a round headed with a smooth shank and threaded section J-bolt with a self locking nut and were plated clear zinc/silver. The reproductions you commonly see on ebay and elsewhere look generally correct with some small detail variables, however the green tint they have is completely wrong, not sure what they were thinking on that one. Here's a picture of originals, the color is off in the pic, they are a truer silver in color.

Over the past few years, a lot of the vendors are selling the green J-bolts as "Correct". Where did they come up with this idea?

Eactly. Inquiring minds want to know. Is this correct for some Mopars, totally incorrect for all Mopars, right stuff for Fords or Chevys?

Besides the wrong chromate, the repros are badly formed compared to originals, and they are often sold with spin nuts. My 69 Barracuda original nuts were lock nuts.
