Oh Canada
related to the other posts about viper calipers, has anyone tried to use brembo calipers from a jeep srt8 or challenger? Not sure how they attach or thier construction but just an idea for a swap to an older mopar.
edit, looks like Mr DR DIFF makes one for a 13" setup.
Jeep and challenger use same caliper?

Any caliper that uses a radial mount is fairly easy to adapt over to a Mopar disc brake knuckle as long as you are using a 13 inch or larger rotor. Calipers from Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Mercedes, etc. are all basically the same. The bolt patterns and the offsets change slightly but generally there is enough room to fit it all together.

The jeep is designed for a 15" rotor that is 1 3/8" thick, its larger than the standard rotors....I just ordered the rotors from Amazon for 86.00 a pair, including shipping, but the price tripled after my order. Tim

The first incarnation of my brakes I used a Challenger SRT, 4 piston Brembo on...then when I was able to round up the pair of 8 piston AMG Brembos they bolted right into place on the same bracket. Was nice and handy.

With the amount of various makes of newer cars coming out with Brembo calipers now from the factory, it gives a bit more selection for donors.

Just make sure your caliper will suit the width and diameter of rotor you pick out of course.

Please explain what distinguishes a "radial mount" caliper design from a non-radial mount design. In the last few weeks, I've seen the term "radial mount caliper" come up several times in the handling section posts, but I am unsure what this phrase means.

The Mopars I have owned had both the Kelsey-Hayes pin-type calipers or the "slider" type calipers.

Thanks in advance for clearing up the fog on this concept.

Larry

The drum brake caliper is easy to modify to fit large calipers if you are willing to get the steel cut to make it fit. I use 4140 chomemoly steel that is .400 thick. It maybe heavier but I will never break the adapters. I could use aluminum brackets but I like the added rigidity that the steel offers and I don't have to worry about dissimilar metal corrosion or getting any plating. Tim

That one is an axial mount where the caliper bolts basically go the same direction as say, the wheel studs. This is a pic of my Viper Gen 3 calipers which are radially mounted.

72 Swinger:

If your two posts and pictures were to answer my question about radial mount calipers, thank you. The pictures cleared things up for me 100% and now I see why it is relatively easy to adapt a radial mount caliper to a home-brewed setup. Thanks again.

As well..a lot of the OE setups have their own bracket to mount the other way..

You can see it on one of mine (in the "paint booth" )

Here you can see the factory allen head bolts that hold the mounting bracket on.

It was easy then to just make a small bracket that goes between the spindle and the caliper bracket.
