I've started assembling the disk brakes off the Diplomat ('77) on my '69 Charger for the disk brake conversion. I had realized that since it's been some months since I pulled the spindle off the donor car, I had forgotten how some of it went together...

Does anyone have a diagram they can post of the spindle/rotor/caliper assembly? Or if not, I need to know:

1) which disk brake pads go on which sides of the rotor?
2) Included with my rebuilt calipers (these are ones for a '80 Diplomat- not sure if this question might be specific to that year) is a bag of parts. Most of the parts are retaining springs for the calipers but for some reason a set of what looks like rubber bands is included, and I have NO idea what they're used for.
3) On the rotor itself- what is the procedure for adjusting the hub nut? I do have access to a dial indicator if it's needed.

Thanks!
David

I am pretty sure that the pads with the "lip" on them, go on the outside of the caliper - you gently squeeze the tangs together to get the pad to fit snug on the caliper, the other one rests on the caliper adapter.

The rubber bands (O rings, etc) go on the caliper adapters - supposed to keep the calipers from sticking/rusting in place. Generally these all get thrown away and never used.

Adjusting the rotor - well, there are many out there that do it "their way" . . . usually the Factory Service Manual is a good place to start. I generally snug the nut up finger tight, then spin the rotor and tighten the nut up til the rotor is a bit hard to spin, then back off slightly til the rotor is easy to spin. This seats the bearings and is generally in the ballpark - at least for me. I have done this for years, so it is a "feel" thing . . .

Good luck . . .

Cheers

Mark

these are all from 76 FSM . . . A and F body. But all slider calipers/disc brakes were essentially the same (except where brake hose and bleeder screw locations are) . . .
