I have a tall deck belt drive and front drive distributor setup laying around. My plan was to use them on a 468" Indy 360-1 245cnc dual 1050 on E85 setup with an external single stage oil pump. As I feel it is a going to be a while until I finish acquiring all the parts and doing all the work(only have block, heads, crank, pistons, intake and carbs right now) I am contemplating putting it on my w2 352 in my Duster with a remote water pump reverse cool setup. My question is being the 352 is an internal oil setup and I want to use the front drive distributor am I going to need to fab up a oil pump drive hold down from an old distributor to keep the gear from lifting out of the pump? I made up a cap for the existing hole but was wondering about this....any one using a similar setup with any experience?

Yes you will need to fab something to hold the drive
down in the pump... something simple will work

I am thinking of buying one of the cheapo (45) billet distributors from Ebay and cutting it in half...then using my 1/4 disc to cover the center hole......

I fabbed up a piece for a guy to do the same thing..
I spun up a plate to fit the dist hole and welded a
1/2" rod to it the proper length

I thought of something this simple but was concerned with wear at the contact point of the rod and gear creating unwanted debris in the engine....that is why I thought of cutting a distributor so I could utilize the shaft....the collar would keep the shaft from pushing out and my disc would seal the top to keep outside debris from getting in.

I cut the head off a stock dizzy , cut the shaft to length and made a Delrin plug ( like nylon ) for the top.
15.00 and about 1/2 hour of work.

I leave a .010 gap between the gear and the hold down..
the gear is trying to pull downward on accel and tries
to lift on zero load or decell.. the only time the
rod comes in contact is zero load or decell... if you
want you can put a hard plate on top of the gear like
a torrington bearing but I never felt it was needed
