i have a 1968 charger and going to re do the dash panel insert. What is the best way to srip off the old paint. and what type of paint to reuse.I would be ok using the same factory color paint.

If its plastic, I'd clean it thoroughly and repaint using the SEM 3 step system (cleaner/adhesion promoter/paint). I get it from Eastwood.

If it is metal, aircraft stripper, clean then sand/prime/paint with whatever you like including exterior paint.

I've used the old style "Easy Off" aerosol spray oven cleaner on lots of models, and it gets most of the paint off. Using a toothbrush style brush helps. Spray, soak for a hour or so, and wash off (rinse real well). As always, try whatever chemical you use on the backside (a small patch) to see if the plastic is compatible. I found brake fluid would soften some plastics in a hurry!

I used this water based, solvent free product I found at Lowes to strip the paint from a bezel. It left the vacuum plating underneath intact.
