Do you have to destroy the seal to remove the windshield or can it be reused (they cost $90!!)?

What about the rear window seal, can you reuse that? I am only familar with B bodies and we just cut the rear out and used the "rope" to reinstall.

How old is the seal? If it is the origional, your best bet is to cut the window out and buy new. As for removing the glass from a new seal, I have never attemped it but, I would believe it would be a difficult task for a novice to do without breaking the glass. I cut my windows out and had a professional reinstall them with new gaskets. He only charged me $120 to install both front and rear windows on my duster. Very cheap considering the cost of a new window.......

My dad and I have parted out a few a bodies. Our best was is to use a Razor Carpet knife to cut out the seal and carefully with one of us on the inside remove the window. Good luck.

No need to cut the seal. Take a small gauge cable and feed it from the inside of the car to the outside. Then you get someone to sit inside the car to apply a little bit of pressure against the windshield while you pull along the windshield. Should take about 10 minutes.

as far as getting installed...i needed a rear window installed in 71 dart with a new gasket.

i called several shops...everyone wanted 150 bucks and i had to bring the car to them...it is a race car..

anyway..i placed an ad on craiglist and got an offer the next day from a mobile service..

40 bucks what they charged...plus i tipped them too..

That's a great idea. I had a front and rear removed by a local glass shop. They said $100. but when he got them out he said that $100 was each. He was just the shop guy they sent out so I couldn't jump him too bad. He gave me his # and said he would do it on his own time for half of what the shop would charge. That didn't make me feel any better. You might go to a glass shop and ask to talk to the guy that removes thier windows. You can make something up that you want to ask him so he doesn't get in trouble but get him off to the side and ask if he would come by after work.

I pulled both pieced of glass out of my 72 Duster myself and reused the gaskets after paint.

Just pull the lock strip and carefully push the glass out while using windex as a lubricant.

If its warm it will be more pliable.

My gaskets are orignal and pretty hard. I guess I will cut the windows out. I have one small chip in the windshield so I will probably need a new one. The local glass shop told me $249 installed but this does not include the gasket. I don't think $249 is bad at all for a new windshield, I was just trying to re-use the overpriced gasket.

Thanks all.
