I was at my brothers yesterday so I decided to take a few pics of the Mod Man intake he is using on his 505" lowdeck stroker eng in his 64 Fury since I have been hearing of more interset in this intake. Thought some may want to see how it sits height wize. Ron

Nice looking set-up. I was thinking they looked like the old Rat Roaster intakes for the Hemi.

yeah a little, but without all the flow issues hopefully...Modman is an open plenum short runner intake. The goal of the rat roaster was a lowered tunnel ram and therefore made getting air and fuel into the lengthened runners a real pain.

I put one on my hemi 2 years ago and took off the Vanke modded factory intake. I also went from the factory carbs to a pair of new eddy 750's. I picked up .3 in the 1/4. I don't know if that was the carbs, the intake, or the combo, but probably a little of both. My 60 foot didn't change, but had traction problems with the new setup. Then a few passes later I dropped a valve and haven't been back since. $$$$. I'm sure if I could have resolved my traction problems, my 60 foot would have come down and I would have picked up more overall. So, in short, I was happy with the upgrade, but once again, it was an upgrade from the factory intake and carbs.

Were either set of carbs tuned for the combo? Most guys that have factory carbs have never once changed a jet in them, and a calibration from the 1960's does not work on today's fuels so I am curious because .3 is a big jump. What ET did it run before and with what mph, and what did it change to? MPH is Hp directly...

Yes, the original carbs were tuned to the combo. Lots of test and tunes on those old carbs!! .. It ran consistant mid 11.20's @ 122mph. Put the modman and 750's on, and listened to advice from some old-timers on the initial jetting, and went straight to 10.97 @ 125mph. That's without any major test/tune because I dropped a valve, and well, it still sits in the garage apart. Hopefully this summer I'll be out again. As always, $$$$....

Cool, so the carbs weren't that bad. I would say it works then. We have had our eye on the Modman intake, but have not had a chance to try one yet. I have run just about every other intake there is on a Hemi, and after seeing the above mentioned Vanke intake and seeing what the FAST guys do to them, I am pretty sure they work well. Even on the small blocks they got a very good write up with them.

Was the dropped valve because of an over rev at all? Been there done that....Sorry to see that.

I don't believe I over revved it, but ya never know. My rev limiter should have jumped in if I got too high, but again, ya never know. I haven't even tested the spring yet to see if it's weak. That's my guess of what caused it. I was so disgusted, I just parked it, tore it down, and have been slowly picking away at it. Once again... $$$$.... I'll be doing the heads soon so I'll test the springs then and that should give me a better idea of what may have happened. The valve actually broke when the engine was cold, on initial startup upon arriving at the track. There is a distinct line on the stem where it can be seen that the stem had cracked, then broke. It just didn't snap off in one clean break...if that description makes any sense. So who knows

My only complaint has been the need for a much bigger pump shot than my vac sec. 800 Eddie could provide.

As soon as I tried a double pumper, the lean out issue I had disappeared.

Again, not sure if this was down to the MODMAN plenum or the huge Gen3 port runners.

What intake was he running prior? Any noticeable gains or track time to see how it measures up?

The bummer is this is a new eng and so far this is the only intake he has run. He runs in the NSS class and has to run two carbs and he is going back to the stock size Hemi scoop and getting rid of the higher size scoop. So he cant run a tall intake and he felt this Mod Man intake should be better then the Mopar crossram. This is a 505 low block stroker and I believe he has only had it out twice last year as his trans started slipping so he is pulling the trans this week to go thru it. Best run so far in his 64 Fury which goes about 3600 with him in it has been 10.08 I believe and its only got about 7 passes on the new combo. Ron
