Quote: "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't EL5 one of the rarest 1971 colors? Sure, B5 is nice, but a color change from a factory hi-impact color to B5 (one of the most common colors) just doesn't seem right to me. But hey, it's your car."
For a mere $10k this car can be yours to repaint the original color. If it were a Bee or an R/T, no problem with EL5 with all the stripes, but so far it's been like the Seinfeld episode with the chick Jerry was dating that only looked good in certain light...
Look, I Love the color on the above submitted EL5 Road Runner, Cuda, and the last duster shown , the others... As Borat would say: "not so much"

IF only SE's came with a stripe like this one, I absolutely would do it - but i've been told Nope, never came with them, just accent striping. Again, this Pic is the only good EL5 Charger i've seen to make me go for EL5. Next week i'll have the paint shop make me up a pint of EL5 and FY1 and put a little in a spray can.
Again, BACK TO MY ORIGINAL POSTED QUESTION: Is there a procedure for the color to be painted to be more brilliant, Like painting a coat or two of White first?

THANK YOU For the FY1 Challenger Pic! That is so far where i'm leaning towards over the original el5, your pic just confirms my initial thoughts. Please elaborate on "single stage " paints, not sure what you mean.
Again, thanks to all. Would still love to see a nicely photograghed pic of a FY1 Yellow w/black canopy, no striped 71 charger to drool over til next summers paint & body.

The Challenger is GY3 Curious Yellow, not F1. Could you get F1 in 1971 ?? Single stage has no seperate clear coat. Most factory colors had no clear unless they had metallic in the base coat. The paint we used on the Challenger was Nason brand by Dupont . Some other brands were way off of the orig color.
My '71 Demon is GY3 Citron Yella.

Anyone have any issues or observations with EL5 paint and panel to panel color differences from flat panel to convex like quarter to door affecting the color according to light angle. Seems color has flop to it and its a solid color.
Light changes this color allot

FY1 was available in 1970 and 1971 as well as some later years, GY3 was only available in 1971.
Paint codes begin with the model year letter that they were first introduced. F = 1970, Y = Yellow, 1 = the shade of yellow, G = 1971, Y = Yellow, 3 = Shade of yellow, etc. If a color was available in later model years the letter designation did not change to the next model year, it remained the same as the original year it was introduced.
