Just picked up an aluminum intake manifold that's missing that plate on the bottom. Everything is nice and clean, does this need to be replaced to use it? If so, can I just make something or are they sold?

Oh yeah, it's a hybrid.....it burns gas and tires!

If it's a stock head big block the valley pan is sold separately.

the metal valley pan gasket is Felpro 1214 for 383/400 & Felpro 1215 for 440's. Has (4) .030" paper gaskets which you may or may not use or want to use. A guy on here sells thin ones (.015). Is your eng together & you picked up an alum intake for it?. People have reused the valley pans & if so I'd recommend a thin/even coat of Permatex #1 in the toothpaste like tube on both sides of each of the 8 port openings in the metal valley pan gasket. #1 is to mockup the intake/valley pan & see where on the slope of the "v" the intake resides as you even it up from side to side & the bolt hole alignment will tell you where you are at with that. block deck height/past milling/gasket thickness/head milling can put the width of the V & therefore where the manifold sits up at almost anywhere. If the width of the V will let you run the paper gaskets by all means do so & spray em with Permatex 99MA "high tack" the red stuff in the spray can. Goes on light/even & is extremely tacky & seals very well

I think he means the small square plate that screws on the intake itself just under the crossover. You don't need it it helps keep oil off the underside on a sb.

Ah, that makes sense. Could probably fab one up pretty quick if the intake had one originally.

I'll ask instead of ASSuMEing ... Hemi, big block or smallblock ?

And if small block... La or magnum? The stock magnums have an aluminum plate on the bottom too.

Sorry guys, should have mentioned it, LA small block(340). I am using a lifter valley plate so I think I should be alright without the one on the bottom of the intake??

Its been a long time, but... I seem to recall I took apart a stock one once that left the exhaust crossover passages basically exposed to the valley without the plate on the intake bottom. My memory may be off, but if that is the case make sure you block of the crossovers at the intake gasket surface REAL good.

If it sealed up there, then yes the milodon or moroso valley tray will have you covered.

You recall incorrectly and on an aftermarket aluminum LA intake it is not missing. To be missing it would have to have been installed to begin with.

The STOCK intake had it there to keep oil off the bottom of the intake. Some think it's to keep the intake from being heated up by oil, some think it's to keep oil from being heated up by the exhaust crossover. All it does is collect oil and turn it to coke. I scrap them and use the lifter valley baffle Milodon makes.

Ok thanks. This is an original aluminum six pack intake so the rivet holes are there but sounds like the valley baffle will do the trick.
