Just got a recall notice on my 04 Ram 3500. It says that the steering linkage may need to be replaced. The left tie rod ball stud may break. My question is that it does not say two or four wheel drive and mine is a 4x4, anyone know anything about this?

Just call your local dealer and they will run your VIN to see if it's one of those involved.

It only applies to trucks that have had the steering linkage replaced under warranty with MOPAR replacement parts. If your truck still has its original steering linkage it does not apply. It applies to the 4wd trucks only. 2wd trucks have rack and pinion steering

I did not buy the truck new, so I have no idea if anything was replaced. I will call the dealer, but the truck is in another shop to replace the transfer case and overdrive right now.

Here is an easy check to see if yours is one of the recalled units. Look where the steering dampner mounts to the drag link. If it is fastened to it with a bracket with 2 u-bolts, it is a MOPAR replacement piece. The factory steering linkage will have a stud that goes through the drag link that the steering dampner attaches to.

BUT it lists 2008-2012 trucks and my 4x4 by vin needs to be inspected.

If you got a recall in the mail, the dealer needs to look at it

I got the notice on my 2011 2500. It says to contact the dealer after 1-6-2014.

there are three different recalls right now and you need to have them checked by vin.

....and if you've EVER had an alignment done do yourself a favor and take a quick look at your tie rod ends and make sure they are both on the same plain (bottom of joint at same angle on both sides....kind of hard to explain, hope you can vision this). I've seen countless ones that were "cocked" away from each other and if you've seen one of the broken tie rod ends and pull the grease boot off you can see where the problem was.
