I`m doing a 71 Cuda to race in the FAST class. Just wondering what color black the shaker bubble was? maybe a paint code? or can I just buy it? where?

Black organsol...be patient, the debate will start soon as to what the correct texture, spray pattern, overspray, who makes the best paint match, metallic, no metallic, rough, smooth, etc, etc, etc....3,2,1,

Just order some black Organosol from Frank Badelson, sixpackfrank@aol.com, it's close enough for a clone and most other cars as well.

*For the sake of argument, some 71's had silver argent bubbles but Organosol was the appointed color for 71.

Sad, but true. Thank God it was just a "Clone" question or the debate would have gone on for pages, and pages, and pages.....

Dave never said anything about it being a clone, and even if it was, that shouldn't matter....that being said, clones are usually build to a higher "standard" anyway

Usually black organosol but there are many documented examples that came with argent bubbles originally

Mar-Hyde or SEM satin black trim paint will have the right sheen (if not the right texture) and is a good look without breaking the bank.

Easy to apply as well...

some early cars were medium argent, and the Mar-Hyde does spray well, I usually shoot Mar-Hyde in a siphon/pressure gun with the air pressure cranked up and the fluid flow dialed back to create some texture and sheen...with varying spray techniques, the Mar-Hyde can simulate organsol or even interior suede finishes, and a very rapid dusting from a few feet away of silver metallic while wet helps in the Faux organsol finish

Right now money is super tight for me between the cancer fight and the back surgery deal, I`m grateful I was able to grab this car as a starting point. It might come out with a 340 or a 383 combo, I`m hoping late this year. (2014) With-in a year after that it will have a HEMI. I just need time to do side work and save money to build one.

I`m guessing 3 years until I hit the top of the pack, but in the meantime my goal is to be there having fun racing what I have.

With all the discussion organisol VS. argent on the 1971 e-body SHAKER bubble.
There will be every example conceivable due to 40+ years of "known" originals, NOS examples, & documented restorations - RIGHT or WRONG. Was it all due to factory or dealer mistakes/shortages/changes/etc.?

What was the designers intent (wild was in full swing while these cars were being drawn up)?. What did the penny-pinchers implement during the 12th hour (as the musclecar was dying and money was getting tight)? I've developed a little theory as to what it was intended to be.

1971 (ORIGINAL INTENT)
'Cuda w/body color painted grill = BLACK SHAKER
'Cuda w/argent grill = argent SHAKER
Challenger w/argent grill = argent SHAKER
Challenger R/T w/black grill = BLACK SHAKER

This "ORIGINAL INTENT" would've required 14 different SHAKER bubbles (w/engine call out emblems installed) to be on-hand in-quantity at the factory waiting to be installed on an e-body as it came down the line.

Tracks with my limited sample size. My 71 R/T came with a black shaker bubble. My non-R/T 71 came with an argent grille. Case closed

Yes, and AFAIK it was completely random in 71, they could have had an argent bubble rather than an Organosol bubble at any time during the 71 model year production. As stated before, Organosol was the design/intended color in 71, but argents were used as well.

I think they pulled it off the parts shelf as it had a '69 date written in grease pencil on the inside...
