Hello there, Im planing on refinish the torsion bars on my car soon.Want to have OE look with the drips on the bars. www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/suspension/mopp_9910_torsion_bar_restoration_and_detailing/Have 2 questions: Nr 1. I would like to know if the very end of the bars should be masked off like the flat areas-were the id stamping is? Or if the id stamping area was covered in paint originally on cars? Nr 2. I have read the threads how to paint them and everything.. And i would like to know what paint to use IF i want the correct shine on the bars.. What paint is to prefer in can or spraypaint.. I want correct shine in the black and durability without dulling.. THANKS Nicklas

Dipping them in a homemade through is your best choice, I like to use POR-15 chassis black rust converter for this process, drys hard like rock, has just about the correct sheen/gloss, and wears well, takes a few days to fully dry, what I do find "funny" is most restorers will face all the dripped edge of the bars facing down when installing them in a vehicle, I'd avoid that, as I don't think the assembly line workers where directed to install the bars in that orientation, the dipping was a hasty way for the supplier to coat the bars, nothing more, nothing less

Do you know if the id stamping area on the very end of the bars should be covered in paint also? Or are they masked like the flat areas on the ends?

..right bar with one blue paint mark and the left with 2 blue paint markers?
Stripe colors depended on the size of the torsion bar.

Set the bar flats on saw horses, get a quart of rustoleum gloss black, pore it over the bars, let cure! The heavy gloss paint will dye back to semi-gloss.
