Looking to see if ticking lifters can be a cause of lower than normal oil pressure? I have about 15,000 (fairly rough) miles on my engine and the hot oil pressures are what is bothering me. Cold start, I can get up to 70-75psi. Hot, I can get up to 45psi. At idle I run cold about 30-35, hot 15psi...This is with 15w-50 full synthetic (same pressures with 15w-40 I used to run).

I do have a little ticking that I believe is lifter related, is there a way that it could be causing the lower pressure??

Thanks

Doubtful at those pressures unless the gauge is wrong. I ran a 340 for years with around 10psi at idle and never had any ticking. Most likely a bad lifter.

Or exhaust leak.
Also alot of play on the rocker arms & shafts and there is sometimes some rocker ticking.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

if they only tick when it's down to 15 psi at hot idle my(1st) suggestion would be a thicker oil. It'd be easier/cheaper to do than to R&R the lifters

ticking lifters is a symptom, not a cause of your pressure issue.

Now loose lifter to bore clearance might be the cause, but that's not what's ticking.

Could be any number of things causing the low oil pressure you are seeing, but to be honest it's not really that low.
