I haven't used either of those intakes, but it shouldn't be too hard to measure the difference in height between the two. If you know how much room you have now, it should be pretty easy to figure out the clearance.
I would probably look into losing the spacer, shorter air filter, or drop base housing before I would replace the hood...but I am cheap...haha

I agree the hood really shouldn't have to be changed...But I run this car with a filter all the time, and I like to fit a healthy sized one on there too if you know what I mean so that the engine can breathe. I am unable to use a drop base filter because of my plate solenoids interfering. The car is in storage right now, otherwise I would have easy access to measure my current hood clearance.
I am just wondering if anyone has had any issues at all... To be honest, with the height of the plenum on the Indy, I would think it shouldn't even need a spacer- its a long way down looking at the top lol

Ditch the Spacer and run a shorter air cleaner if needed. 5" is excessive.

Lose the spacer. Hope you don't end up in the same situation I was in a while back. Get a big new intake that makes more power way up top, but you lose so much lowend torque that it never runs worth a crap at the track.

I like having the 5" air cleaner since I have the space for it right now. Obviously if I have to get something thinner I will, but I don't want less then 3" of air cleaner. I am a firm believer in running with an air cleaner to keep the engine clean (and my car slowed down taking it off this year) and if I am going to do that mine as well put the biggest filter on to allow the max amount of air to pass through.
Chip, what manifold did you switch too? Low end might be affected I am thinking as well, but with a loose converter like I have (5500) I would imagine the car will be above the weak point of the manifold (if there is some weakness in bottom end power that is...I have no idea what the power curve is like on these manifolds).

Matt...I have a hemi, but I switched to a larger cast manifold (Indy 426-4). Has more plenum and runner volume than the Ray Barton manifold I had been running. Both single dominator manifolds. The bigger manifold was stronger up top, but it never made up for what it lost down low. 60 foot slowed 1/2 a tenth! I never expected my 572" motor to be affected like that.
With the nitrous it might not be a big issue, but on motor you MIGHT be disappointed. It may run great, it just seems like a similar scenario to what I was in w/ mine is all. It would have been better in my car if I had the converter loosened up a lot and was able to turn more rpm, but that's not at all what I wanted to do w/ it.

Hey Chip, I know you run the hemi and in the past the RB stuff, but I wanted to hear your experience with it anyways since it might play out similar.
I got the manifold with the heads. To be honest, I have always assumed it was a top end package that had to go together, or atleast worked well together. I already have it, so I will try it and see. I hope you it still performs well. The car might eventually end up more of a bottle baby, but I still want it to be a fun all around car on the motor too.
I guess time will tell when I get to run it. But I have pretty much decided that a spacer on top of this giraffe like plenum might not be the best idea for hood clearance and performance

I run a normal round 14x3" air cleaner on my car 24x7. Its not any faster with it off.

I only tried with it off as I had a friend who harassed me that I was leaving e/t on the table...it was hillarious that the car slowed down instead when I tried though, he had nothing to say at that point lol

That's a nice table and chairs set. looks like we could do a Hot Wheels race too!!!
Lose the spacer, short filter. I run better with no filter but every car is unique and special in it's own way lol
LOL yea thats the christmas wrapping table at the moment...my brother's gift to my 4 year old cousin is that lego car thing you see there
Like I said, with an already tall plenum, I don't see the benefit of the spacer, plus I will need hood clearance as there is going to be a cheater plate on top of there too

We ran this indy intake/dominator on our W5 set up. Just had clearance to run an UNI air cleaner with our 5" cowl hood.
Excuse my ignorance Jay, but what is a UNI air cleaner?

Ya ok did you tune the carb with the air cleaner on?if so shoulda tried rejetting it when you pulled it off ive never had a combo run slower and ive been doing this for 29yrs.maybe you have some type of turbulence issue with the hood your using then the air cleaner might help straighten it out and your using a very large breather but in my experience ive see usually a tenth to 2tenths when off especially when using a drop base style.i think there was only one experience when i seen no difference when i pulled the cleaner off but then again ive never been fortunate enough to run such a tall breather on any of my combos.
