Thanks Monte, that's mighty impressive on a street surface.
I remember seeing Robbie Vandergriff in the Soff Seal 57 Chevy Pro Mod at Huntsville Dragway back in the summer of '87 going into the 4 second zone. We were stunned.

I hope Farm truck gets his own show. Lots of people like them but I walk over to the computer when he and his buddy come on. His street shenanigans do not belong on that show.

At first I did not like them, but then I became a fan of the duo!
I hope they get back to the list with an upgrade in the truck or a stronger beetle!

Finally caught up on all the episodes. Not a horrible show at all.

You know the full throttle episode where they were testing on a no prep track were the s10 flip had me thinking who here races at one of those no prep events?I watch a video over on the bullet that was called wild rides best of 2010 and it seems like the track in Houston Raceway Park were like an ice rink it's a good show don't get me wrong but i can never imagine me driving that kind of horsepower on the street.

405 has a gimmick. It works.Non prepped concrete and they hook and go and you can only live in the 405.PT Barnum had the same business model. The show will only show them winning. Its about the number of viewers.I don't blame them for taking the money from Discovery and going with it.Do I think they can go and compete with what I think determines the fastest street car aka DragWeek NO.

Not to take anything away from these guys but tire development has come along way from how it used to be. Also Flip that passed away made the traction compound that they use to heat and treat their tires before they race.

There is a massive thread over on YB about this and there are a few that share your opinion. Discovery Channel is growing the audience season by season and even week by week. That is a good thing for all of us drag racers.

There is much more positive than negative about this show for our hobby/sport. Drag racing needs this kind of exposure.

Even the carping about how fast (or not) the 405 guys really are is good because it keeps the show current in more people's minds. But it does show that those that are doing the carping just do not get the most important elements of the show.

This argument is OLD. Even the 405 guys themselves admit that they have NOTHING for a bunch of these cars on a prepped race TRACK. They make no secret about it. But on the street is obviously a different story.

As far as it being in the 405 only. Seems to me they have been to both Texas and California and taken care of business. And if you think these guys were not street racing long BEFORE this show, you would be sadly mistaken. How you think they got enough attention to garner a show in the first place.

And while is doesn't get a whole lot of play, LOTS of tracks in Texas, OK and other states are now having "No Prep" races. A car from the 405 generally wins these when they show up. They have learned how to make their cars go down a bad surface and that is "their" deal. So far nobody has been able to best them at it

Didn't the guy in Chicago beat the Sonama truck fair and square on their terms? I know you said there wasn't enough footage to make the show (although I'm not sure why they can't show one short race in Chicago but they can show Farmtruck and Azn antique shopping).

But the YouTube video clearly shows the Chicago Nova beating the truck. It shows the Nova way ahead at the start even before the truck loses traction.

On another topic, doesn't anyone else think Big Chief always being the starter might be a little bit of an advantage? Like, can't they coordinate and practice the timing of exactly when he's going to hit his flashlight button?

BTW, I do love the show.

they tell the other driver exactly how the light will work, three steps back and the light. so no it's not an advantage.

Hey Monte, how is Tina doing? Getting truck fixed or was it damaged beyond repair?
Thanks for your inside info!

I just finished catching up this morning. Some of the whining was annoying but I still enjoyed it.
Its neat seeing the advertisements in the show (Monte Smith,Unlimited t shirts)but find the commercials a bit awkward(disability help, cathers & ostomy products,Acne treatment.

Gotta remember, the "target audience" of this show is NOT "car guys". It has to appeal to the normal person. While the sound effects irritate us, the average person knows no better or could care less. The target is also the reason you see Azn and Farmtruck clowning in an antique store and all the other stupid crap they do. We don't care for it, lots of others do. The "drama" is what appeals to the casual fan and sells the show. If it was JUST the cars going down the street, you may as well be televising rounds of bracket racing. Personally, I think they keep it just serious enough to draw real car people AND entertaining enough for the mainstream audience. Drawing 2 million a show.....doing SOMETHING right

Monte...That show does have some stupid stuff that you are correct on! But they are doing something right to get that many viewers. With that said...Put your GTX together and show them how it is done!
