so driving my 07 the other day and I smell fuel. couple miles from home so I drive it. get home and #4 injector line is cracked up near the injector. (and spraying fuel at 20,000psi) as we know this is a common problem on the common rail trucks. its has something to do with the line hold downs and lack of support on the injector line.
so, do yourself a favor.
1- check all your 8mm bolts that hold your injector lines in place (the part with the blue plastic blocks) tighten them. this should quiet down a noisy lifter tick kind of sound if you have one. it did on my truck
2- order a spare #4 line. its a 10 minute job on the side of the road if you have to change it. 19mm (or 3/4) wrench. 8mm wrench and a 10mm wrench. (ratchet makes the job easier in the 10mm bolt) common rail doesn't need to be bled so bolt it on and go.
3- do not buy from maMopar unless you like to pay too much. deal with your local Heavy Duty shop who deals with cummins. $30-40
cummins upgraded the lines with pt# 4988808 this is a upgraded design with a torx screw. this is what I had in my truck and it failed. new design is cummins pt# 5289447 this one has a rubber isolator that gets rid of the plastic hold down design
thought I would pass on the info because if it hasn't happened to you it will very soon
new design
