Hey Guys -
I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on a 1970 Chrysler Newport to a set of 15-inch classic torque thrust D's with BFG TAs, however I'm not sure of the correct backspacing and or how wide I can go on both the front and rear. I'm thinking maybe a 235 or 255 front on a 7-inch rim and then perhaps a 255-285 on a 8.5" or 10" rear.
Anyone have experience with these land yachts?
Thanks - Mike

I run 235/75-15 on all corners, I think I have 8" width wheels with zero offset spacing on repop Vector SEs

6-1/2" to 7" width with standard offset is more than adequate for P235/75's on all four corners. They fit the wheel well nicely and are nice proportion. Your 8+" wheels are too wide. You'll get a dozen guys telling you how big they've gone but it's for bragging rights only.

I don't know what the back spacing is on a stock cop car rim but I ran those rims on a '71 Newport (4dr) I used to have and ran 255/70/15 on the back with 235/75/15 on the front. Back tires didn't rub anywhere, BUT, axle had to be at full droop to get the wheel on and off. (As an aside, my car didn't have fender skirts). I loved how the car looked with those tires on the back. Filled things up nicely without going overboard.

This is great info gentlemen, thank you. I'm think perhaps a 235/60/15 on the front and a 255/60/15 on the rear on 7-inch wheels. Need to measure for the offset though...

8+" is too wide for what? Do they rub or hit something? Or you just don't like they way they look?

Cop Car 15x7 rims are 4.25" backspacing.

My 70 Newport has 15x7 245 60's up front and 15x8 275 60's pulling up the rear with no rubbing problems. Not sure on backspacing I will add that in order to change a rear wheel and get past the skirt, you have to raise by the frame and let the suspension hang.

then I switched to 235/70r15 on 15x7's, and 255/70r15 on 15x8.5's. I like the highth better, and no rubbing either way
