I installed a summit[SUM-850005-1/blue box] distributor in my 1968 440 motor[from a new yorker] 68 coronet.I have adjusted the timing several times and I have a high RPM miss that I did not have with the point distributor. Is it detrimental that I use a 2 field terminal alternator?I am currently using a new single field 55 amp alternator. Can I rebuild this unit to a 2 field or just purchase a new one and get on with my troubleshooting?

The ignition system doesn't care what alternator you use of it you even use one as long as the battery maintains enough voltage to fire the ignition system. Check your grounds, check your battery voltage, check your connections, check your firing order and plug wire routing.
