After doing many driving events and lots of driving, I've always felt the steering wheels on the market could use some improvement. I've found that 13.5" is the diameter that just feels right to me. This is a little smaller than the factory tuff wheel. I've tried all the repro tuff wheels and although they look nice, they don't fit the bill for me. I found a grant wheel to work with and adapted it to bolt on just like a factory wheel. I painted the spokes in urethane base/clear then padded the grip slightly and wrapped in genuine leather for a true beefy grip similar to a modern M3. Is this something that anyone would like to have? It's not going to be cheap unfortunately....

I want one similar to that one, but with 2 or 3 holes in each spoke.

And the leather wrap should look good. Do you have a picture of that?

Yes, I would be interested, but kinda tough to decide without actually holding it.

I'm interested! Any idea on price? Hard to tell from a picture but is the spokes the same colour as a stock Tuff wheel? Can you post a picture close up of the stitching around the spokes? That area doesn't look exactly like stock?
Thanks Brad

I'd be interested but would like to see the finished version side by side with the tuff wheel. Also would depend on pricing. Thanks for looking into this!

Guys, this is not designed to be a concours tuff wheel. I did this more like form follows function. Its a painted wheel in bright silver. I wanted the look of a tuff wheel, but more importantly with the right diameter and grip.

The lacing looks nice, my interest is also more function, grip and feel, then looks.

Im sure once I get a hold of it I would love it. A smaller diameter than my woody tuff wheel would be an improvement and I bet the padding a nice luxury. Right now you cant put me at the top of list though because to many other things are in line ahead of a new steering wheel.

Mopar to the bone!!!

Who was it that did the comedy skit with only a steering wheel, Monty Python? Something to consider

Medium to light brown would be great also.

Guys, if its just the leather wrap your interested in then check this out

These guys are great, you select the diameter to match. I recommend using the baseball stitch.

Results are MUCH better than the original factory foam cover. I did my tuff wheel about 6 years ago, I think the cover was about $50.

That would work, but I've been wanting to get a different design wheel. The one I have now is too modern a design to match the year of the car and I decided that I want something more like what the race cars used in the '60s and '70s. 3-spoke with round holes in the spokes. Some day I'll acually look for something.

Peter -- I APPLAUD YOU!!! That wheel should be an absolute easy decision for most everyone who wants a better easy-bolt-on Mopar style wheel, and with the advantage of the smaller diameter (helps to actually quicken the steering response from the driver. The extra thickness and material grip appears great!

I've had the original Mopar Tuff wheel and decided it was too slippery, too thin, and too large in diameter.

My need (for autocross competition) was function -- smaller diameter quickens the steering response -- simple! The factory diameter and feel of Tuff wheel was not acceptable. I ended up with a "Superior" brand 11.5" diameter, ~5" deep, ~1.5" thickness... awesome for performance/competition.... (of course, the crush can was removed).

You've got a "winner"... and the price you determine will be worth it for ~95% of anyone who gets one.

Just wanted to say that I think that looks awesome!
Where'd you source the Grant wheel from?

I've pondered a Tuff wheel in my new wagon, and I'd prefer the smaller diameter. I certainly don't have your fab skills, but I can wrap leather pretty well...

Oh man, that is what I'm looking for. I have tuff wheels on my cars, but are too skinny for my big ill gorilla hands, so those look perfect diameter for me. I don't need a smaller diameter since my shoulder is like 67 inches across, so the stock wheel in fine. Would you be able to do a stock wheel with the thicker grip?

For now, I'm trying to start with this wheel. The only way the price will be reasonable is with some quantity. Doing one offs is going to be way expensive.
