How do you disconnect the steering box from the column on a 56 Coronet? Where is the secret "keeper"? We have undone all the bolts, and the box is loose on the column, but it won't slide on off.

Thx.

My 40 is all one peice. The worm is on the end of the column shaft. They used this in trucks thru the early sixties.

It is manual. If it is one piece, do you just have to cut it? I guess you could take the shaft out by removing all the lock washers, etc, from inside the steering column?

Thx.

Have you removed the steering wheel? It has to come off before the shaft will seperate from the column. Gene

Yeah, I have removed the steering wheel, however I haven't messed with any of the lock washers/rings inside the column. I know how the shafts come out on the late 60's, early 70's cars. This one is just different. So I take it that the shaft comes out through the bottom (with the steering box).
