My 02 2500 diesel has developed a fuel leak coming from fuel filter housing. There is moisture on the bottom of the thermostat on the side but the dealers in town don't stock it which leads me to believe it is not a common problem. Have already replaced the seals on the bottom of the housing and it is still wet. Any recommendations. Thanks

I had an '02 also. As I remember the lift pump pressurizes the filter and excess pressure bleeds off and returns to the fuel tank in a separate line. You may have a leak in the return line. If you have not yet done it, now would be a great time to relocate the lift pump to the frame rail, they work a lot better as a pusher than a puller and will live longer away from the vibration of the engine. Leave the bracket on the engine, it covers a hole that needs to be sealed. Buy the Vulcan kit from Geno's Garage in Georgia. The lift pumps were attached to the engine assembly to benefit the production line, not the owners of the trucks. Geno's can probably help you with an aftermarket filter if your's is bad. Check in with the turbo diesel register for more tips.

there's only fuel in and fuel out on an 02 canister. Return is at the VP44. I'm assuming at this point that you feel the fuel is seeping from the fuel heater? Clean it up good with brake clean and compressed air and bump the starter. This will make the lift pump run for 20 sec (prime mode) and you'll be able to pinpoint the leak. While I've resealed/replaced many drain valves, and maybe a couple wif sensors, I haven't ran across a fuel heater leaking on one, but anything can happen. I'd say take it apart and see if you can simply replace an oring on it.

Yes, I believe it is leaking from the heater/thermostat. Will try your suggestion. Thanks

Me anticipating it was a bigger problem than what it was. Just tightened the 4 screws that hold the heater/thermostat to the filter housing and viola....leak gone. Thanks for the suggestions!
