If you think MT's suck at the track... bfg's and nittos are even worse. Bfgs and nittos are better than a standard street tied. Nittos are usually considered better than the bfgs.both are better for actually driving around on than the MT's.

Do your self a favor and cancel the order. You will not like BFG's if you didn't like the Mickey Thompson. They don't perform near as well.
The Mickeys perform better on the street and track.
I've run both. The BFG's first. They didn't hook. Pulled them off and went to Mickey's and never considered another drag radial since the Mickeys work so well.
With the BFG's on the street I couldn't open the throttle until 100 mph. With the MT I can open it up at about 60 mph and hook up.
Night and day.

I remember correctly your car is a stick, a drag radial is not the best option for you. Your going to want something Bias ply if you want to get it to hook up. The BFG is far from the popular choice for drag racing. I am surprised they still produce it as I rarely if ever see any on any cars around here but the dragstrip isn't the place to look for them.

that is correct. BFG drag radial will last longer but hook the least out off the drag radials. i'v had BFG, m/t, hoosier. the hoosier drag radials hook the best but don't last as long as the others. I think with a stick you would want a hoosier QTP. they hook better than a drag radial and have a lot of rubber on them to last a good while. I cound not even get to hoosier drag radial to hook every time using a 5500 stall. you wont be buying tires every year if ya go with the QTP. try Mccormic racing tires out of Detroit. they stock a lot and will give you the best price.

Yes this is a stick car, I'm planning a Dana swap with cal tracs. I will not go backwards 30 years and run a bias tire. My car rarely sees the track. I want life, handleing, and hook. I play a lot, tire smoke, etc. so I know the Mickie's melt on the street.

The old saying " have your cake and eat it too " comes to mind. Any tire that hooks won't last on the street. As others said if you don't like the MTs you'll hate the BFGs.

My .
From personal experiences, over the years, I've found out that my car will not hook on the street, with or without radials. I have been running, for the past 10 years or so, a 345/55r15 BFG drag radial on the street, but for no other reason than cosmetics.(this tire is no longer made, so I don't know which way I'll go next year when it's time to replace them)?. The big tire just looks good under the car. At the track, I run a bias ply Hoosier slick, 29 12X15.
I'll say one thing for sure. You WILL NOT get a stick car, that's making any kind of power, to hook with a radial tire. Again, my

There is at least one guy running 6.50's/232 on M/T drag radials(Roger Holder). If they suck it may be because you don't know how to tune your chassis for them.

none of the radials I tried hooked on the street. the hoosier radials worked best at the track. the QTP handle just as good as any drag radial i'v tried. I chased my tail for 7+ years with the radials and finally made some improvements in ET this year with the QTP. the QTP has a lot more rubber on it than the radials do and I run them without tubes.

That will require a minimum of 2 sets of tires. Drag radials are designed to go straight and hook and not necessarily on the street unless the pavement is very clean. Corners and tread life aren't happening as far as hi-performance is concerned.

I have Cooper Cobras on my New Yorker in 275/60/15 with a 493 and compared to the BFG's I tried first they are real sticky. The twist in my axle splines leads me to believe they are doing a good job too.

The BFG's on the other hand would instantly go up in smoke, shift into second and finally hook at about 60 MPH. It will spin the Coopers but it won't blow them off with 3.23's. The car drives like you would expect any normal car to drive as far as stopping and cornering go.

If you rarely see the track I wouldn't waste my time or money on DOT type slicks.

Kevin

I guess one person here hit the nail on the head, maybe I'm after more the look of a drag radial then, I know I'm asking a lot , but I honestly plan on useing a set of QTP by Hoosier on a set of steelies. So I might as well just order up another set of the M/T since they at least are on hand. I was also thinking of going a touch wider since I'll basically be cutting my 60 to fit the car.

Trust me I have fought radials on my car for years, had Hoosier slicks and QTP and mickey et street bias. The new mickey Thompson pro is light years ahead. I just went faster 60ft on motor then I have ever gone on spray with the pro's. They even work on the street way better then my Hoosiers.

I hope they make them in other sizes in the future. I need 325x50x15's. That should be the second or third most common size for a drag radial. I only ran the BFG's at the track one time and took them off. I think my best 60ft was 1.60. Switched to Mickey's and could tell I had something to work with. I got them down to low 1.40's and now since I switched to double adjustable shocks expect to get them in the 1.30's.
I've spent a lot of time and money figuring out what works if I can save somebody the headaches I went through I will try. BFG's might work on a slower car. High 12's or slower but if you are making any kind of power don't waste your money.

My car makes about 475-500hp. My MT radials will hold it on the street pretty easy. I can't spin them from a roll unless the road is very dirty. It was 26degrees when I drove it the other day, hammered it from a 15mph roll and it hooked. From a dead stop I have to drive it a little but I can have it glued and wide open in about 30ft. My car has been a best of 11.18 I bet i could run 11.40s on most city streets lol. It's almost a boring tire on my combo!

I had nitto 275/50/15s on my old 12.30 mustang driver. I seriously had better luck with the regular bfg radial TA over the nitto drag radial, that's a show car tire.

I have heard they are going to make them in the 315/60/15 size for the outlaw drag radial guys, but doubt they will make more sizes.
